He succeeds Krista Driscoll, who resigned late last year.

A Colorado native, Peterson had been working in various capacities since 2010 for CBSSports.com and was based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Most recently, he was the trending editor for CBS, directing content for a wide range of sports and events, including Olympics coverage. He previously oversaw NFL content for CBS for nearly three years, coordinating on-line content from headlines to long-form stories to video. A career highlight was covering his beloved Broncos at Super Bowl 50 as they captured a third Lombardi trophy.

Returning to Colorado — Peterson grew up in Boulder, and graduated from Fairview High School — and the Vail Daily is a pleasant career/life two-fer.

“I needed a new challenge,” Peterson said. “And I wanted to get back to a newsroom where original reporting remains the top priority and where the local newspaper owns the narrative on what matters most to its residents and visitors.”

Peterson met his wife, Emily, in the Colorado High Country, while he was working at The Aspen Times.

Recommended Stories For You

“The Vail Valley is exactly the type of place where we want to raise our kids (Grace and Max),” he said.

After graduation from Luther College in 2003, Peterson came to the Vail Daily as a sports reporter, working for sports editor Chris Freud.

While with Colorado Mountain News Media — first at the Vail Daily, then at The Aspen Times — Peterson was a correspondent at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. He also covered the U.S. Ski Team and World Cup ski racing and the Winter X Games for the Vail Daily and Aspen Times.

After several years with CBS, working exclusively in the on-line world, Peterson said he’s eager to bring that digital know-how as the Vail Daily continues to expand its reach in both the print and digital worlds.

“The Vail Daily is the envy of every resort newspaper in the region,” he said. “It’s the exception to the rule when it comes to print media (today). That said, my mandate is to make it better. I will push for more urgency in the reporting that shows up on the website and in the daily paper, especially when it comes to important national, state or regional news that has a direct impact on locals, second-home owners and visitors.”

And, he added, he’s eager to return to the world of story-telling.

Vail Daily Publisher Mark Wurzer thanked Driscoll for her decade with the Vail Daily and Summit Daily News.

Of Peterson, Wurzer said, “Nate brings strong leadership skills, journalism experience, passion and a strong vision and plan for our future.”

For Peterson, that vision starts with telling the valley’s stories.

“For a guy who loves finding and telling great stories and crafting original content, I’m excited about what we can accomplish together at the Vail Daily,” he said. “Each day I’ll know the score from the local community.”

Vail Daily Editor Nate Peterson can be reached at npeterson@vaildaily.com or 970-748-2929.

Vail Daily Business Editor Scott Miller can be reached at smiller@vaildaily.com or 970-748-2930.

via:: Vail Daily

EAGLE-VAIL — Nate Peterson is happy to be back in Colorado, back in the publishing business and back at the Vail Daily.
