There is wisdom in that as the Saints powered past Plateau Valley, 73-68, on Saturday afternoon. Vail Christian overcame a 10-point deficit at the half with a 28-point, third-quarter outburst, as well as a solid defensive effort in the second half to win its league opener.<\/p>\n
Alec Moritz went off in a big way with 33 points, including eight 3-pointers, a new school record. It’s very likely that his older brother, Sebastian, could come back from Purdue to try to reclaim his old mark.<\/p>\n
Four of those treys came in that explosive third quarter. Meanwhile, Zach McKeever was one assist away from a triple-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.<\/p>\n
Vail Christian (3-4 overall and 1-0 in the Slope) got big offensive contributions from E.J. Koller, Jamison Lee and Tommy O’Neill.<\/p>\n
In the lidlifter on Saturday, Vail Christian’s girls dropped a 46-38 decision to the Cowboys.<\/p>\n
“We didn’t have a big bench, but we had a lot of hard,” Saints coach Cynthia Robinson said. “The girls played really, really hard, and they almost came back.”<\/p>\n
Zoey Barela had 14 for the Saints (3-4, 0-1), while Abby Kuhns had 10.<\/p>\n
