Back in April, when Miranda Lambert<\/a>, Jack Ingram and Jon Randall won the ACM Award for song of the year for her \u201cTin Man,\u201d they took the stage to thank the academy and the fans. \u201cThank you guys so much for sharing my broken heart with me,\u201d Lambert said at the time.<\/p>\n

But now, she\u2019s elaborating on the topic.<\/p>\n

In the new issue of ACM Tempo<\/em> magazine, Lambert opened up about how productive her trip to Marfa, Texas was.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a small town about 600 miles west of Lambert\u2019s hometown of Lindale, and was dubbed the capital of quirkiness<\/a> by CBS. And it\u2019s where Lambert, Ingram and Randall got together at a ranch house at the foot of the Davis Mountains while they were there on their songwriting mission.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were just free. We didn\u2019t have any goals or plans, we just wrote. I think being out in West Texas where it\u2019s vast and beautiful and there\u2019s nothing for miles just makes you listen to yourself and the thoughts. It really stirs up creativity,\u201d Lambert said of the writing retreat.<\/p>\n

And when they started on \u201cTin Man,\u201d Lambert recalls, she had a gut feeling about the tune. Kind of a songwriter\u2019s intuition.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew (\u2019Tin Man\u2019) was special the second the first verse went down on paper,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m thankful to be able to share in the good and the bad and ups and downs of life through music. Telling the truth is scary but it\u2019s worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n

And that approach to songwriting? That\u2019s what Lambert maintains is the key to her longevity so far. \u201cGrowing as a songwriter is the most important thing to me. Being recognized for something I wrote with two heroes and friends is truly unforgettable,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Lambert\u2019s next appearance will be her performance at the Loretta Lynn: All-Star Birthday Concert in Nashville on April 1.<\/p>\n
