The X Games will feature something truly different on Saturday evening at 6:30 when snowboarders take not to the jump portion of Buttermilk Mountain\u2019s big air venue but, rather, the knuckle.<\/p>\n
The \u201cknuckle\u201d is the rollover of the big air jump. For the first time this year, Winter X Games Aspen will feature a Knuckle Huck competition. For the competition, snowboarders will take off that rollover portion of the jump and hurl a trick before finishing in the same landing area as the big air competition. The snowboarders will execute tricks off of the knuckle for a set period of time in a jam-style format throwing as many tricks as possible within the allotted time.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince riders do not get as much height,\u201d X Games Aspen said in a press release announcing the event, \u201cthe tricks must instead rely on technicality and creativity.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event is currently slated to feature 10 of the world\u2019s best snowboarders including Summit County resident and 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic slopestyle gold medalist Red Gerard. Other riders scheduled to take to the Knuckle Huck include Canadian star Mark McMorris, stylish Steamboat Springs rider Nik Baden and Sage Kotsenburg, the 2014 American slopestyle Olympic gold medalist who has competed few times since leaving Sochi, Russia.<\/p>\n
GERARD ANNOUNCES SNOWBOARD FILM<\/p>\n
Also this week, Gerard announced on his social media channels that he is starring in a new snowboard film set to be released this coming fall.<\/p>\n
The film, \u201cJoy: A Snowboard Film,\u201d tracks the snowboard riding, the terrain chasing and the dreams of Gerard, Kotsenburg, Oregon snowboarder Ben Ferguson and their friends as they share the soulful approach that brought them to the mountains in the first place.<\/p>\n
