VAIL \u2014 When U.S. Ski & Snowboard announced the U.S. Teams for the 2019 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships<\/a> on Friday, Eagle County was among the best represented areas in the country with home towns of Vail, Avon and Eagle listed next to the names of athletes from several disciplines.<\/p>\n

The 2019 FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships, presented by Toyota, take place in Utah from February 1 \u2013 10, 2019. The snowboard, freestyle and freeski championships will include events from the disciplines of ski cross, ski moguls, ski\u00a0 aerials, ski and snowboard halfpipe, ski and snowboard slopestyle, snowboard big air and snowboard cross.<\/p>\n

Locals will have a competitor to cheer for beginning with the very first event of the championships on Friday when Eagle resident Meghan Tierney<\/a> steps into the starting gate in the women\u2019s snowboard cross event. Live video coverage of snowboard cross racing begins at 11 a.m. MST on nbcsports.com.<\/a><\/p>\n

While Tierney is competing in snowboard cross on Friday, Chris Del Bosco<\/a>, who grew up in Eagle-Vail and races for the Canadian national team, will be attempting to make it through to finals in ski cross. If he does, you can catch him starting at 1 p.m. MST on nbcsports.com<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, the team snowboard cross finals will take place, and there\u2019s also a chance Tierney will be there. Catch it at 3 p.m. MST on nbcsports.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Summit County also has a few athletes competing, including slopestyle phenoms Red Gerard and Chris Corning<\/a>, who were both named to the slopestyle and big air snowboarding World Championship teams. If they make finals in the big air event, you can catch Corning and Gerard live on nbcsports.com<\/a> starting at 7 p.m. MST on Tuesday, Feb. 5.<\/p>\n

Feb. 8 will be a big day for local competitors \u2014 Eagle\u2019s Jake Pates<\/a> will be the local athlete to watch for in the snowboard halfpipe finals, starting at 11 a.m. MST live on nbcsports.com<\/a>; and Vail residents Hunter Bailey<\/a> and Tess Johnson<\/a> have a good shot of making it through to finals in the men\u2019s and women\u2019s moguls competitions, set for 7 p.m. MST live on nbcsports.com<\/a>. Another athlete will local ties to watch for in moguls is Casey Andringa, a Ski & Snowboard Club Vail freestyle<\/a> athlete from Boulder, who was the top finishing American man at the Olympics in 2018.<\/p>\n

Feb. 9 will also be a big day for Eagle County athletes as Avon\u2019s Taylor Seaton<\/a> hopes to make it through to ski halfpipe finals, set for 11 a.m. MST live on nbcsports.com<\/a>. The reigning ski halfpipe World Champion from 2017, Crested Butte\u2019s Aaron Blunck is a 2014 graduate of the Vail Ski & Snowboard Academy<\/a>, and last year\u2019s World Cup overall winner Alex Ferreira<\/a>, of Aspen, is a member of Ski & Snowboard Club Vail, as well.<\/p>\n

Later that night, olympicchannel.com<\/a> will air live coverage of the dual moguls event, where Johnson and Bailey will once again attempt to make finals. Johnson has already notched a World Cup win in dual moguls<\/a> and is hoping to add a World Championships medal to that collection, as well.<\/p>\n
