By turns humorous and heartbreaking, Western music and cowboy poetry are a perfect pairing and a celebrated artist pair will present a Valentine\u2019s Day performance at a venue that couldn\u2019t be more perfect.<\/p>\n<p>Poet\u00a0Doris Daley and singer-songwriter Doc Mehl will present an evening of Western music and cowboy poetry at 4Eagle Ranch on Tuesday, Feb. 12.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t let the word \u2018cowboy\u2019 scare you off,\u201d said Daley. \u201cIf you love stories and enjoy a good punchline and love the universal themes of family life \u2026 it is all there.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote id=\"article-blockquote\" class=\"p402_hide\" readability=\"38\">\n<p>&#8220;100 years from now, if the world&#8217;s still in the game,<br \/>Mayy the earth recall our footprints, may the wind sing out our names.<br \/>May someone turn a page and hearken back upon this time,<br \/>May someone sing a cowboy tune and someone spin a rhyme.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Doris Daley<br \/>Cowboy Poet<\/p>\n<div id=\"single-mid-script\" class=\"p402_hide\">\n<h2>Recommended Stories For You<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The pair resides in Alberta, Canada but they are in the midst of a U.S. tour that will loop through Colorado, Utah, Texas and Oregon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have strong ties to Colorado,\u201d said Daley. \u201cDoc is actually a Colorado boy and he had family in Eagle County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Broad appeal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Daley said all things Western is really the theme that runs through her poems and her husband\u2019s music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCowboy poetry and cowboy music is rooted in cowboy life but it is bigger than that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Daley said the genre isn\u2019t stuck telling tales from the 1800s, but rather reflects contemporary Western living \u2014 everything from hobby ranching to seeking out a living on a present-day ranch.<\/p>\n<p>She noted their\u00a0performance doesn\u2019t touch on religious or political topics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hit many moods \u2014 laughter, tears and wistfulness,\u201d she said. \u201cWe have a goal of hitting all the emotions during a show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Neighborly promotion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Katie Nelson of 4Eagle Ranch, locals Mike and Edith Lederhause were instrumental in bringing\u00a0 Doc and Doris to the valley.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have our first Thursday cowboy dance here at 4Eagle that is pretty popular and we were looking for other things to draw that same crowd,\u201d Nelson said.<\/p>\n<p>Daley describes the Lederhauses\u00a0as \u201cfriends and fans\u201d who came up with the idea of the 4Eagle performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoc and Doris are both well known in the Western music and poetry circle, and the show will be a real treat for the Eagle Valley,\u201d Mike Lederhause said.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson concurred, noting that the pair is<span>\u00a0popular\u00a0<\/span>at large Western music and cowboy poetry gatherings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to see if this is something the valley will enjoy,\u201d Nelson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are unabashedly old-fashioned,\u201d said Daley. \u201cOur show doesn\u2019t have any bells and whistles and it will be an uncomplicated night of entertainment.
