Battle Mountain knocked off Glenwood Springs, 50-45, on Tuesday night for a season sweep, important for tiebreaking, of the Demons. The Huskies and Glenwood are 9-2 in the Slope after Tuesday’s action with Palisade at 8-3.<\/p>\n
Not only did Tuesday’s win bring Battle Mountain to the precipice of history, but it showed the Huskies’ resilience after a tough loss at Palisade.<\/p>\n
“They did a great job of bouncing back,” Huskies coach Kindi Backstrom said. “Palisade was a hard loss, but I feel that we played pretty well. We focused on our game and knew it was going to be a battle (against Glenwood).”<\/p>\n
Against the Demons, Gabby Caballero had 15 points and Alden Pennington 12. The two had four 3-pointers each. Pennington, a sophomore, has been a discovery during the second half of the season.<\/p>\n
“She started off the season ready, but she struggled a little bit with the game speed of shooting,” Backstrom said. “But she’s figured it out and it’s clicking for her.”<\/p>\n
The Huskies lost 40-39 at Rifle, and hope for some payback on Friday.<\/p>\n
