{"id":1304648,"date":"2019-03-02T09:39:26","date_gmt":"2019-03-02T16:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/?p=449544"},"modified":"2019-03-02T09:39:26","modified_gmt":"2019-03-02T16:39:26","slug":"gypsum-signs-contract-with-local-firm-to-build-new-roundabout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/gypsum-signs-contract-with-local-firm-to-build-new-roundabout\/","title":{"rendered":"Gypsum signs contract with local firm to build new roundabout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GYPSUM \u2014 Gypsum officials recently approved a $1.7 million contract with local firm Ewing Trucking and Construction to build its new roundabout at the intersection of Cooley Mesa and Valley roads.<\/p>\n<p>According to Jim Hancock, the\u00a0assistant town manager and town engineer, construction on the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/news\/roundabout-is-on-its-way-to-aid-gypsums-valley-road-traffic\/\">\u00a0new roundabout<\/a>\u00a0will begin this spring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are saying we will be starting as soon as they can, basically when the frost comes out of the ground,\u201d Hancock said. \u201cThen we will start talking about the schedule. There are distinct phases that have to be accomplished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Phase 1 will be to relocate overhead electric lines in the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is a Holy Cross Energy project and we have signed their contract already. We are in their pipeline, so to speak,\u201d Hancock said.<\/p>\n<p>After the overhead lines are buried, crews will proceed with actual roundabout construction and the project is slated for completion in 2019.<\/p>\n<div id=\"single-mid-script\" class=\"p402_hide\">\n<h2>Recommended Stories For You<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cOur effort will be to get things done by Gypsum Daze. That is probably doable, but we don\u2019t want to promise that. It is a big project,\u201d said Hancock.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Expect delays<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As motorists throughout the Eagle Valley have learned, roundabout construction means traffic impacts. Hancock said Gypsum\u2019s contract with Ewing stipulated that the intersection remain open during the work. However, motorists will likely see some delays as flaggers direct one-lane traffic through the construction zone.<\/p>\n<p>Hancock said the town hopes to avoid large traffic delays during commuting times and during school traffic.<\/p>\n<p>When completed, it will be a single lane roundabout with turn lanes at Cooley Mesa Road.
