The Tune Shop has been up and running for about a month.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>GOLDEN PEAK \u2013 A funny detail about The Tune Shop \u2013 Ski &amp; Snowboard Club Vail\u2019s new slopeside tuning facility \u2013 is now that technicians have a drive-in garage, they are no longer receiving their skis by vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The Tune Shop has been up and running for about a month at the base Golden Peak, where athletes deliver skis and snowboards by hand to technicians who service them on the spot. The process is saving hours in staff time, not to mention the thousands of gallons of gasoline used in transporting skis back and forth to the former location in Minturn.<\/p>\n<p>The drive-up garage has already proven its worth, however, in transporting a new, state-of-the-art&nbsp; Wintersteiger Mercury machine to the shop. It\u2019s not funded by enrollment fees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t pull from other programs to finance it,\u201d said Geoff Mintz with Ski &amp; Snowboard Club Vail. \u201cThe Tune Shop is self-sustaining.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"single-mid-script\" class=\"p402_hide\">\n<h2>Recommended Stories For You<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Happy grinding<\/h2>\n<p>Now operating out of a slopeside facility, with hours of driving no longer a job requirement, double the space and a facility they\u2019re calling the most sophisticated of any ski club west of the Mississippi, the employees of The Tune Shop feel like they\u2019ve just had quite a job promotion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a game changer for us,\u201d Brian Eggleton said. \u201cWe were able to lay out the space the way that we wanted to \u2026 starting with a clean slate, that brings a lot of satisfaction to us as technicians, that we have a really functional space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eggleton, when asked how many hours per day were being spent driving skis back and forth to the shop\u2019s former location in Minturn, was excited to reveal the number now that those days are behind him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt least two (hours),\u201d he said. \u201cAt least.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Today, \u201cInstead of dragging our skis around, we can focus on business development, and that\u2019s really exciting for us,\u201d Eggleton said.&nbsp;\u201cOur efficiency is way up.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Black Friday business<\/h2>\n<p>One avenue for business development won\u2019t be realized until next fall, when early-season training begins at Golden Peak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe big win is that this is on site for athletes and coaches to use,\u201d Eggleton said. \u201cIt\u2019s easy to access us, it\u2019s easy to come down and have a conversation, we can troubleshoot easily, and we have an appropriate facility that allows us to do that effectively.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_451535\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-451535\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_3584-2-325x244.jpeg\" alt width=\"713\" height=\"535\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_3584-2-325x244.jpeg 325w, https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_3584-2-150x113.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_3584-2-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_3584-2-1240x930.jpeg 1240w, https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_3584-2-620x465.jpeg 620w, https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_3584-2-600x450.jpeg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 713px) 100vw, 713px\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Brian Eggleton with Ski &amp; Snowboard Club Vail in the club\u2019s new tuning facility, located on the bottom level of the Ski &amp; Snowboard Club Vail\u2019s new Golden Peak clubhouse. Geoff Mintz photo.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>National teams from around the world have been training on Golden Peak in November in recent years for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/news\/ski-race-training-begins-at-golden-peak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">its superior racing snow<\/a>, but when it comes to tuning, they\u2019re setting up benches in whatever space they can find, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/news\/international-atmosphere-transforming-golden-peak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">often in nearby hotels.&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a key time; for many teams, it\u2019s a final camp before the season begins in earnest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the next three or four years, visiting teams with technicians and coaches are going to know that when they come to Vail for fall training, they can bring their skis to Ski &amp; Snowboard Club Vail, and have us regrind skis, reset bevels, put structure in the skis, and that they can walk through the door and work with us on that specification,\u201d&nbsp;Eggleton said.<\/p>\n<p>Ski &amp; Snowboard Club Vail Head Technician Paul Suomi said he expects The Tune Shop at Golden Peak will be a bit of a tourist attraction for ski techs at Golden Peak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Austrian team all grinds on that same machine, they can come down with an SD card will all their grinds on it and plug it into the machine,\u201d Suomi said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/news\/the-tune-shop-is-now-slopeside-at-vail-with-new-technology-and-twice-the-space\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Vail Daily<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From left is Brian Eggleton, Paul Suomi and Branden Berg with The Tune Shop, a Ski &amp; Snowboard Club Vail business that operates out of the club\u2019s new slopeside development at Golden Peak.
