In an act of desperation, Kristofferson famously landed a helicopter in Cash\u2019s yard to get the Man in Black\u2019s attention to record his material. Among the songs was the somber \u201cSunday Morning Comin\u2019 Down,\u201d a ballad Kristofferson wrote about a struggling artist who spends a lonely Sunday morning watching others go about their day while he wishes the Lord would bless him with an opportunity to get stoned.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>Church pairs his weed with wine in \u201cSmoke a Little Smoke,\u201d the third single from his 2009 album <em>Carolina<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>Her Grammy-nominated debut <em>12 Stories<\/em> had this casual blues number about getting through life\u2019s tough times by getting high. \u201cBroke\u201d from 2016\u2019s <em>Big Day in a Small Town<\/em> also talk about how regular folks out in the sticks get their kicks off stuff they can grow.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley aren\u2019t shy about their typical Sunday fun day in this No. 1 from their sophomore album, <em>Anything Goes<\/em>. In the song, all they want to do is wear my favorite shades all day and get stoned. A family-friendly radio edit changes the lyrics \u201cget stoned\u201d to \u201cstay home.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>Haggard\u2019s signature hit is considered one of country\u2019s most famous anti-protest songs to come out of America\u2019s \u201960s counterculture. It\u2019s allegedly about a small-town Middle American with ardent patriotism who was proud to be from a city where people didn\u2019t smoke marijuana, wear beads or burn their military draft cards. The song was written in one day on the spur of the moment when Haggard\u2019s bus passed the Muskogee city sign. Inspired by the way he thought his father would react to what was going on in the world at the time, the song\u2019s success must have surprised the Hag. It led to his win for the CMA\u2019s entertainer of the year in 1970.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>In this 2009 single from <em>That Lonesome Song<\/em>, Johnson parks his pickup in a Baptist church parking lot to smoke pot and pray. By the end of the song, he comes to the conclusion that the high cost of living ain\u2019t nothin\u2019 like the cost of livin\u2019 high.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>Lay back and let it do what it do.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"heading-container\">\n<h3 class=\"heading\">\u201cDon\u2019t Bogart That Joint,\u201d Little Feat<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>The rock band Fraternity of Man originally recorded this song in the \u201960s, but Little Feat\u2019s minute-long live version from <em>Waiting for Columbus<\/em> is considered a stoner\u2019s \u201cAuld Lang Syne.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmt.com\/artists\/miranda-lambert\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Miranda Lambert<\/a> famously covered Little Feat\u2019s \u201cWillin&#8217;\u201d about movin\u2019 on with weed, whites and wine live in front of a sold-out crowd at Nashville\u2019s Nissan Stadium during 2016\u2019s CMA Music Festival.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>Vince Gill apparently wouldn\u2019t produce Monroe\u2019s 2013 album <em>Like a Rose<\/em> if she didn\u2019t record \u201cWeed Instead of Roses\u201d for the collection. In the song, she prefers bouquets of green and whiskey from her lover over conventional romantic gifts like roses, wine, Hallmark cards and teddy bears.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>In her second single, Musgraves suggests if the straight and narrow gets a little too straight, roll up a joint. Or don\u2019t. Just follow your arrow wherever it points. Nelson and his guitar Trigger also appear on \u201cWillie Nice Christmas\u201d on 2016\u2019s <em>A Very Kacey Christmas<\/em>. In the song, they hope followers find their own Christmas paradise by staying higher than the angel on top of the tree.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>Johnson, Kristofferson and Snoop Dogg guest with Nelson on this musical living will of sorts from Nelson\u2019s 2012 album <em>Heroes<\/em>. In the song, they hope their ashes get rolled up into a joint passed around after they crossover to the other side.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>Nelson and Haggard bet all their money on pot in this stoner anthem from their 2015 album <em>Django and Jimmie<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>Co-writer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmt.com\/artists\/maren-morris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maren Morris<\/a> came up with the initial idea for this song, which the duo ended up recording for their 2016 debut <em>Pawn Shop<\/em>. It\u2019s a road trip-ready rocker that\u2019s perfect for a drive to the nearest weed-friendly state.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>Pardi compares his lover to a dealer and himself to a love junkie in this romantic rocker from <em>California Sunrise<\/em>. In the lyrics, he sings of getting hooked every time he holds her.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>Stapleton ran out of whiskey, so he resorts to getting stoned in this blues rocker from 2015\u2019s <em>Traveller<\/em>. \u201cThem Stems\u201d from Stapleton\u2019s forthcoming album <em>From a Room: Volume 1<\/em> has the potential to be the companion piece to \u201cStoned.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"description-container\">\n<p>A hitchhiker catches a ride from a trucker out of Philly with a nice long toke in this OCMS classic. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmt.com\/artists\/darius-rucker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Darius Rucker<\/a>\u2019s version won the Grammy for best country solo performance in 2014.
