{"id":1309843,"date":"2019-05-03T21:40:16","date_gmt":"2019-05-04T03:40:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/?p=977350"},"modified":"2019-05-03T21:40:16","modified_gmt":"2019-05-04T03:40:16","slug":"new-castle-celebrates-cinco-de-mayo-with-2nd-annual-block-party-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/new-castle-celebrates-cinco-de-mayo-with-2nd-annual-block-party-today\/","title":{"rendered":"New Castle celebrates Cinco de Mayo with 2nd annual block Party today"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/image.png\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/image.png 640w, https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/05\/image-200x300.png 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\"><figcaption><strong>The town of New Castle celebrates its 2nd annual Cinco de Mayo Block Party Saturday<\/strong><br \/><em>Provided Visit New Castle<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For the second year in a row, the small town of New Castle will throw a big block party to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think one of the important things is that this is something that all parts of the community come to,\u201d Town Councilor Bruce Leland said of the Cinco de Mayo Block Party now in its second year.<br \/>\u201cThe Council is very supportive of anything that lets the members of the community get together, meet one another and have fun together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The town closes off a portion of Main and Fifth Street for the block party that features live music, food, drinks, a pi\u00f1ata and face painting.<\/p>\n<p>Mariachi band Entusiasmo Norte will provide the live entertainment and local area establishments including Elk Creek Mining Co., Hogback Pizza, 2 Coronas Mexican Bar &amp; Grill, Baires Empanadas, Spirits of Downtown New Castle and Glenwood Canyon Brewpub will supply an assortment of tastes and sips.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees may purchase food and drink tickets at the block party.<\/p>\n<p>Admittance into the closed off portions of the downtown, however, remains free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>All net proceeds from food and drink tickets will benefit New Castle\u2019s River Center.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2010 the nonprofit River Center provides numerous outreach programs and classes to the local community with the help of countless volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The River Center] provides food for kids, they provide coats in the winter and there is probably seven or eight outreach programs that they do to help people in need,\u201d Leland said.<br \/>The Cinco de Mayo Block Party takes place on May 4 between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI actually was told that many, many years ago they used to have a block party on Fifth Street,\u201d Dr. Lauren Roper of New Castle Dental explained.<\/p>\n<p>Roper, herself, helped bring back the Cinco de Mayo Block Party last year and was determined to keep the family-friendly event alive. \u201cWe wanted to bring that back.
