Our ability to work, learn and play all depend on our level of health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report on health and academic achievement states, \u201cHealthy students are better on all levels of academic achievement: academic performance, education behavior, and cognitive skills and attitudes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">In efforts to connect our communities to local and national health resources, your Garfield County Libraries added a new health page to our website. There you can access information on food assistance, health insurance, mental health and databases with trustworthy and reliable health information.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Additionally, we have events coming up that include a \u201cSummer Wellness Series\u201d in Glenwood Springs and a \u201cHealth Insurance 101\u201d series in Parachute, Rifle and Glenwood Springs. All events and resources are free and available for all to use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gcpld.org\/health\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/www.gcpld.org\/health<\/a> to check out the resources and for more information.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BriefText HeadSmall\">Health by Chocolate: Indulge and Be Well<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BriefText HeadSmall\">Chocolate can actually be good for you. Learn how at the Silt Branch Library at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 16, to taste the quality and learn how to use chocolate to enhance your health. Free, open to the public, and presented by Nutritional Health Coach Troye Boone with the Glenwood Springs Natural Grocers. There will be a maximum of 25 participants, so register early. For more information call the library at 970-876-5500.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BriefText HeadSmall\">Health Insurance 101<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BriefText\">The libraries present three events where health coverage guides Silvia Santana and Jenni Rodriguez from Connect For Health Colorado explain open enrollment, tax credits, cost-sharing reductions and how to get health insurance. The events begin at 6 p.m.; the first will be held on Monday, May 20, at the Glenwood Springs Library, the second will be on Thursday, May 23, at the Parachute Library, and the final event will be on Wednesday, May 29, at the Rifle Library. All are brought to you through grant funding from Libraries Connecting You to Coverage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BriefText HeadSmall\">Summer Wellness Series<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BriefText\">Each Saturday morning (starting May 18) there will be a free class on a different topic, from Tai Chi Chih and Zumba to meditation, at 9 a.m. at the Glenwood Springs Library.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BriefText HeadSmall\">Best Self Women\u2019s Group<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BriefText\">Chat with other local women about self-care, career, friendships, relationships, self-advocacy, mindset, goal-setting, money management, or other areas in which participants would like to receive support. The group will meet from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on the Saturdays of May 18 and June 22 at the New Castle Library.
