The officer asked how old the younger male was, to which he replied \u201c16.\u201d The 24-year-old said that the 16-year-old male was \u201cdropping off his headphones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The juvenile consented to a search and told the officer that he had marijuana on him. Subsequently, the officer confiscated a pack of cigarettes and a black container of marijuana off of the 16-year-old male and told the juvenile to go sit in his patrol car.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not handcuff the [16-year-old male] while he was in my car,\u201d the officer stated.<\/p>\n<p>The officer then questioned the 24-year-old male who said that the juvenile only had a little marijuana wax. The 24-year-old male knew what type of marijuana was in the container despite not seeing inside of it.<\/p>\n<p>The officer searched the 24-year-old male and located a cell phone, a marijuana joint and $25 in cash.<\/p>\n<p>According to the affidavit, the entire event took place within approximately 150 yards of a high school.<\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old male was transported to the Garfield County Jail and charged with offenses relating to marijuana and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.<\/p>\n<h4>SHATTERED WINDSHIELD, KUM &amp; GO, METH<\/h4>\n<p>At approximately 10:41 p.m. May 15, an officer with the Rifle Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a black Nissan Altima in the parking lot of the Kum &amp; Go in south Rifle for a shattered windshield.<\/p>\n<p>According to an arrest affidavit, after running the 27-year-old female driver and 24-year-old male passenger\u2019s licenses, dispatch advised that the female had a felony warrant out of Mesa County for theft.<\/p>\n<p>According to the affidavit, the female tried to light a cigarette on numerous occasions, but each time, \u201c[the 24-year-old male] reminded her they were parked near a gas pump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before being placed under arrest for the warrant the officer asked if the female \u201cwanted anything out of her purse,\u201d to which she replied, \u201cyou\u2019re not touching my purse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The officer then asked the male if he was aware of anything illegal in the vehicle. At first he replied that he wasn\u2019t, but when the officer made clear that whomever came retrieve the car would be responsible for anything in the vehicle, the male stated, \u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s in her purse, but I don\u2019t want anything to do with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The officer then placed the purse on the trunk of the black Nissan Altima and \u201cbegan searching the purse incident to arrest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The search turned up 0.6 grams of methamphetamine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could hear [the 27-year-old female] screaming from the back of my patrol car that she did not give me consent to search her purse, and she wanted her lawyer present.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After another officer explained to her what \u201csearch incident to arrest was,\u201d she calmed down and was semi-cooperative, according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>The female suspect was transported to the Garfield County Jail and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia (petty offense).<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"mailto:mabennett@postindependent.com\">mabennett@postindependent.com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/crime-briefs-man-allegedly-sells-marijuana-to-minor-near-high-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Post Independent<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Around 5:10 p.m. May 13, an officer with the Carbondale Police Department patrolled near Sopris Avenue following a tip that marijuana was being sold to juveniles in the area.
