Mother Nature can often be cruel to spring sports in Colorado.<\/p>\n

She struck again Tuesday, forcing all classifications at the state golf championships around the state to cancel the second day of the two-day tournament, meaning the first-round scores that golfers put up stood as final scores.<\/p>\n

Glenwood Springs senior Lisa Kelley and Rifle senior Masi Smith were both heavily affected by the cancellation in the 4A and 3A state golf championships.<\/p>\n

Kelley, competing for the Demons at Pelican Lakes Golf Course in Windsor, shot a round of +14 Monday, which ultimately placed her tied for ninth in the championship standings. Kelley\u2019s round of +14 was 14 shots off of the lead as Holy Family\u2019s Hailey Schalk won the 4A state tournament with an even round Monday in Windsor.<\/p>\n

Mullen\u2019s Sofia Choi (+5), Vista Peak\u2019s Kylie Severin (+6), Windsor\u2019s Jessica Zapf (+7), and Holy Family\u2019s Jessica Mason (+10) rounded out the top 5 in 4A.<\/p>\n

Windsor won the 4A state championship over Holy Family at its home course.<\/p>\n

In 3A, snow forced the cancellation of Day 2 of the 3A state championship at Eagle Ranch Golf Course in Eagle. The snow affected Rifle\u2019s Smith, who shot a round of 77 (+5) to finish tied for fourth in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was disappointed she couldn\u2019t play Tuesday and have a chance to try and improve her position,\u201d said Tod Smith, Rifle\u2019s head coach and Masi\u2019s father. \u201cHer play has been very good lately.\u201d<\/p>\n

The winter-like conditions gave Colorado Academy\u2019s Caroline Jordaan the individual state championship with a round of 71 (-1). Jordaan also led Colorado Academy to the 3A state championship.<\/p>\n

Aside from Smith, teammate Breanna Seay shot a round of 112 (+41) to finish tied for 46th in the state.<\/p>\n
