Brick and mortar banks see fewer walk-ins and are at the bottom in sales tax.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Why so many? Glenwood has 10, New Castle \u2013 1, Silt \u2013 0, Rifle \u2013 5. Going up valley, Carbondale \u2013 3, Basalt \u2013 4, Aspen \u2013 who knows.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Banks choke out real estate space for vibrant retail activity. They create dead zones to small scale tourism. Community planners encourage a mix of shopping for locals and visitors alike. Banks are no longer the magnet clustering commerce. They are auto-oriented.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>American National Bank currently has a great location \u2014 visibility, parking, a drive-thru, and, half of Glenwood lives past its front door.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Going backwards to hurt the downtown just doesn\u2019t seem to add up.
