{"id":1311146,"date":"2019-06-07T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-06-08T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/public-gets-more-say-about-sayre-park\/"},"modified":"2019-06-07T23:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-06-08T05:00:00","slug":"public-gets-more-say-about-sayre-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/public-gets-more-say-about-sayre-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Public gets more say about Sayre Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Following the Sayre Park Master Plan open house where potential \u201cbasic improvements\u201d to \u201caggressive changes\u201d were unveiled, a community survey for further public input has launched.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cWe hope that the survey provides more opportunity for the public to give their comments,\u201d Glenwood Springs Parks and Recreation Director Brian Smith said of the survey that was put together by project partner veraCity. \u201cThe [Sayre Park Master Plan] has always been a community pushed initiative. \u2026 It\u2019s been a grassroots effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">On May 30, project consultant Zehren and Associates displayed three potential options for the historic, multi-use park at a community open house.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cThe options really are a tiered approach to how extensive should the improvements be,\u201d Smith explained of the options, which ranged in scope from improving pedestrian pathways to replacing the entire baseball field with synthetic turf. \u201cIs it a simple update of some of the amenities? \u2026 Or, a more reimagining of that space and how the public interacts with it and uses it. \u2026 What we\u2019re trying to pull out of these open houses and surveys is not only what would the public like to see there, but to what extent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Located at 1702 Grand Ave., Sayre Park, which hosts the 122-year-old Strawberry Days Festival each June, was donated to the city in 1940 by James Sayre with the stipulation that it would remain just that \u2014 a park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The public has until June 18 to take the 15-question survey, which can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/r\/SayreParkPlan\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/r\/SayreParkPlan<\/a>.
