{"id":1311608,"date":"2019-06-19T19:45:57","date_gmt":"2019-06-20T01:45:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/?p=981594"},"modified":"2019-06-19T19:45:57","modified_gmt":"2019-06-20T01:45:57","slug":"sweet-as-ever-strawberry-days-festival-celebrates-122-years-with-homecoming-theme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/sweet-as-ever-strawberry-days-festival-celebrates-122-years-with-homecoming-theme\/","title":{"rendered":"Sweet as ever: Strawberry Days Festival celebrates 122 years with \u201cHomecoming\u201d theme"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"414\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2018\/06\/SdaysPreview-gpi-061318.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2018\/06\/SdaysPreview-gpi-061318.jpg 620w, https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2018\/06\/SdaysPreview-gpi-061318-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2018\/06\/SdaysPreview-gpi-061318-325x217.jpg 325w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\"><figcaption><strong>Children enjoy being sprayed with water during a past Strawberry Days Parade in Glenwood Springs.<\/strong><br \/><em>Chelsea Self\/Post Independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Celebrating its 122nd year with a \u201cHomecoming\u201d theme, Glenwood Springs\u2019 Strawberry Days Festival\u2019s return to Sayre Park Friday through Sunday is as sweet as ever.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrawberry Days tends to be a time when kids, grandkids, people who used to live here, people who call Glenwood their home away from home come for the weekend to kickoff the summer,\u201d Angie Anderson, Glenwood Springs\u2019 Chamber Resort Association President &amp; CEO, said.<\/p>\n<p>When the chamber formed in the early 20th Century, one of its first orders of business was to arrange the 1919 Strawberry Day; a tradition the association has continued to grow for 100 years.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the chamber\u2019s involvement, the Tri-County Farmer\u2019s Union held the first Strawberry Day on June 18, 1898 to showcase fruits, vegetables and dairy products produced in the region.<\/p>\n<p>One-hundred and twenty-two years later, the now three-day festival will include nearly 20 food and drink vendors offering cuisines spanning the globe.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Strawberry Days Festival will also feature over 100 arts and crafts booths featuring local, regional and national artisans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of the music has some local connection to Glenwood,\u201d Anderson added of the acts that will appear on the festival\u2019s main stage over the course of the three-day festival.<\/p>\n<p>Billed as the ultimate \u201980s experience, Saturday\u2019s headliner, \u201cthe 6 Million Dollar Band\u201d (6MDB) has performed the hits of Depeche Mode, Madonna, Prince, Van Halen and other iconic acts for audiences across the country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MAIN STAGE LINEUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Friday, June 21<br \/>5-6 p.m. Andre Orcutt<br \/>6-6:30 p.m. Crowning of Miss Strawberry Days<br \/>6:30-7 p.m. Andre Orcutt<br \/>7:30-10 p.m. Brothers Keeper<\/p>\n<p>Saturday, June 22<br \/>12:30-2:30 p.m. The Feeding Giants<br \/>3-4:30 p.m. Whiskey Stomp<br \/>5-6:30 p.m. Thunk<br \/>7-10 p.m. 6 Million Dollar Band<\/p>\n<p>Sunday, June 23<br \/>11-12 p.m. Rodrigo<br \/>12:30-2 p.m. Umberto Fonte<br \/>2:30-4 p.m. Stray Grass<\/p>\n<p>The family-friendly festival also includes a family fest area featuring juggling, magic, music and comedy from, \u201cThe Jammin Jim Show\u201d; acrobats, trapeze artists and aerialists from the Salida Circus, and even a pie-eating contest.<\/p>\n<p>Festival goers may cool off and enjoy free strawberries all weekend long in the cool zone tent too.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday the Strawberry Days Parade will depart from Ninth and Grand and make its way to Sayre Park.
