{"id":1312324,"date":"2019-07-11T16:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-07-11T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/?p=983656"},"modified":"2019-07-11T16:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-07-11T22:00:00","slug":"shakespeare-in-the-park-premieres-in-basalt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/shakespeare-in-the-park-premieres-in-basalt\/","title":{"rendered":"Shakespeare in the Park premieres in Basalt"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image p402_hide\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"536\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/07\/bshakespeare-atd-071219-2.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/07\/bshakespeare-atd-071219-2.jpg 620w, https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/07\/bshakespeare-atd-071219-2-300x259.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">After a 12-year run in Aspen, the Hudson Reed Ensemble is opening its first Shakespeare in the Park production in Basalt this summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Hudson Reed\u2019s artistic director Kent Reed said the move was a year in the making and was necessary because of the loss of rehearsal and performance space in Aspen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI have spent most of my creative life in Aspen and leaving is like leaving home and starting afresh,\u201d Reed said. \u201cBut leaving home is a growth experience and I am so pleased that the town of Basalt has opened it\u2019s arms to us and we are very excited to become a part of Basalt\u2019s vibrant and growing arts community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The ensemble will be performing in Midland Park adjacent to the Basalt Regional Library in Old Town Basalt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cIt\u2019s a small, intimate park nestled alongside the river making it ideal for our Shakespeare productions.\u201d Reed explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The company will perform a series of three scenes from Shakespeare\u2019s most popular plays: \u201cRichard III,\u201d \u201cThe Taming of The Shrew\u201d and \u201cRomeo and Juliet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The company has shifted the settings of the plays. \u201cRichard III\u201d introduces England\u2019s Wars of the Roses, while \u201cThe Taming of the Shrew\u201d is set in Deadwood, South Dakota with Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok and \u201cRomeo and Juliet\u201d is takes place in renaissance Italy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The hour-long evening of scenes mirrors the first season of Shakespeare in the Park in Aspen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cJust as in Aspen 12 years ago, we wanted to initiate folks unacquainted with Shakespeare to gain an appreciation of his work through these bite-sized, easy to digest, samples of his work.\u201d said Reed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Cast members include Chris Wheatley, Talulah Marolt, Naomi Havlen, Rodrigo Perez and Kent Reed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The free performances are Friday, July 12, Saturday, July 13 and Sunday,14; as well as Friday July 19 and Sunday, July 21.
