Dene Moore Care Center, Colorado Veterans Home and Mind Springs Health, working with the elderly, veterans and children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Dee Stiers, owner and executive director, said it is all about the help from local volunteers, many of which are school-age children from Rifle to Glenwood Springs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Stiers said they have 50-70 volunteers for the program, which works with clients Monday and Tuesday during the summer and Thursday and Friday in the fall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cThey are just awesome, they are just great kids,\u201d Stiers said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Volunteers start as young as 12 years old.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">For Dee\u2019s granddaughter Brenna Hinkley, 15, it has been a constant in her young life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI was pretty much born into it,\u201d Brenna said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Brenna volunteers as a side walker, who walks along the side of the horse engaging with the client, making sure they have a good day and have fun.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI think it\u2019s amazing; it is so cool how its changes them,\u201d Brenna said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">So far this year the RIDE program has served more than 100 students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Peach Valley resident LaPriel Armijo became involved with the program through a good friend, and began volunteering five years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cI loved it,\u201d Armijo said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Armijo recently earned her certification through PATH International (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International), and now instructs at RIDE.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cYou can see based on why they are there \u2026 if it\u2019s physical, a lot of time over the 10-week period you will see their core strength increase, and if it\u2019s a behavioral issue, they learn to engage in conversation and the warm-up program because they want to do other things,\u201d Armijo said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cThey are engaged and happy, and that is what they are all about.
