{"id":1313917,"date":"2019-08-23T16:08:52","date_gmt":"2019-08-23T22:08:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/?p=986515"},"modified":"2019-08-23T16:08:52","modified_gmt":"2019-08-23T22:08:52","slug":"silt-forced-to-close-community-center-over-structural-safety-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/silt-forced-to-close-community-center-over-structural-safety-concerns\/","title":{"rendered":"Silt forced to close community center over structural safety concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image p402_hide\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/08\/Silt-community-center-1024x650.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/08\/Silt-community-center-1024x650.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/08\/Silt-community-center-300x190.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/08\/Silt-community-center-768x487.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/08\/Silt-community-center.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"><figcaption><strong>The Silt Community Center at 480 Grand Ave. has been closed to the public for safety reasons.<\/strong><br \/><em>Google Maps image<\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The town of Silt has closed the Community Center building at 480 Grand Ave. due to concerns about the building\u2019s structural safety.<\/p>\n<p>The town board is also slated to discuss the future of the building at its regular Monday meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The former church building has hosted a variety of events and private functions as a community center for several years under the town\u2019s ownership.<\/p>\n<p>The Silt Building Department has posted the building as unsafe and any occupancy is now prohibited.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was closed after deficiencies were discovered in its structure,\u201d according to a town press release issued Friday afternoon. \u201cThe building has been fenced and all are asked to stay well away from the building.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The town has notified all of those who have registered to use the building and given them the alternative of using the nearby Town Center, if that works.<\/p>\n<p>According to Town Administrator Jeff Layman, a routine check of the building on Aug. 5 discovered that the west wall seemed to be buckling and other walls were \u201cleaning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Town Building Inspector Mike Styk examined the building and, along with Public Works Director Trey Fonner, advised that the building be closed to public use.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The building is routinely checked, as are other buildings rented to the public, Layman said.
