{"id":1313920,"date":"2019-08-23T17:08:20","date_gmt":"2019-08-23T23:08:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/?p=986414"},"modified":"2019-08-23T17:08:20","modified_gmt":"2019-08-23T23:08:20","slug":"crime-briefs-stolen-truck-full-of-money-and-meth-suitcase-belongings-tell-different-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/crime-briefs-stolen-truck-full-of-money-and-meth-suitcase-belongings-tell-different-story\/","title":{"rendered":"Crime Briefs: Stolen truck full of money and meth; suitcase belongings tell different story"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image p402_hide\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" src=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/02\/PI-crime-briefs-1small.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/02\/PI-crime-briefs-1small.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/02\/PI-crime-briefs-1small-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/02\/PI-crime-briefs-1small-325x183.jpg 325w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong>Stolen Dodge Ram, $100 bills, 1.68 grams of meth<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At approximately 12:12 a.m. Aug. 19, a sergeant with the Garfield County Sheriff\u2019s Office was driving behind a reportedly stolen vehicle near Carbondale.<\/p>\n<p>According to an affidavit in the case, the sergeant conducted a high-risk stop on the blue Dodge Ram at the entrance of a nearby trailer park.<\/p>\n<p>Upon contacting the vehicle\u2019s driver and passenger, neither spoke English nor had identification on them and, \u201cboth appeared to be \u2026 looking for an escape route.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After detaining both subjects, officers noticed a $100 bill on the ground next to the Dodge Ram\u2019s driver side door. Upon looking closer, officers found a wallet and several more bills on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, inside the wallet was a picture that matched the vehicle\u2019s driver.<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old male was then placed under arrest and transported to the Garfield County Jail.<\/p>\n<p>Upon searching the wallet, officers discovered two small bags that contained a \u201cwhite crystalized substance,\u201d which later tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine, according to the affidavit. The combined weight of meth in both bags was 1.68 grams.<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old male was subsequently charged with driving a vehicle while license under restraint, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, warrant, criminal impersonation and aggravated motor vehicle theft.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>\u2018He doesn\u2019t have diabetes; all of the needles are because he uses drugs<\/strong>\u2018<\/h4>\n<p>At approximately 3:09 p.m. Aug. 19, Silt Police responded to a trespass call involving a \u201cwhite male, wearing a muscle shirt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The reporting party advised that the male suspect, \u201ctook a bunch of his stuff\u201d before getting a ride to a nearby convenience store.<\/p>\n<p>Upon confronting the 27-year-old male at a Kum &amp; Go, officers noticed \u2018that he was very nervous and sweating a lot,\u2019 according to the arrest affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old opened a suitcase in his possession, which contained clothing and an additional dark blue backpack. Officers also noticed a single syringe inside and when asked about it, the subject claimed it was for his type 1 diabetes.<\/p>\n<p>The subject was not carrying insulin or a blood sugar level-testing device.<\/p>\n<p>According to the arrest affidavit, officers called the reporting party who stated, \u201cNo he doesn\u2019t have diabetes; all of the needles are because he uses drugs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The reporting party claimed to have known the suspect for approximately 14 years.<\/p>\n<p>A further search of the subject turned up a glass pipe with white residue, a scale, five butane torches, a bag of needles, multiple credit cards with different names, two social security cards and a \u2018female\u2019s ID badge for a massage school.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The subject was arrested and transported to the Garfield County Jail where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of ID Docs- multiple victims, criminal possession of a financial device and possession of drug paraphernalia.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Meth under the Grand Avenue Bridge<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>At approximately 12:26 a.m. Aug. 17, officers with the Glenwood Springs Police department recognized a male with an outstanding felony warrant under the Grand Avenue Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>Upon being advised that he was under arrest, the 40-year-old male \u201cimmediately tensed his arms\u201d and \u201cbegan to reach for his right side waistband and right front pocket\u201d according to the arrest affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>After one of the arresting officers drew his Taser, the male subject complied and was placed under arrest.<\/p>\n<p>After searching the male\u2019s wallet, \u201ctwo clear, small plastic baggies\u201d were discovered which contained a crystalline substance.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, once lodged at the Garfield County Jail, a routine search turned up four more small bags with a crystalline substance.<\/p>\n<p>According to the arrest affidavit all six bags combined weighed 7.7 grams and tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and introducing contraband in the 1st degree.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"mailto:mabennett@postindependent.com\">mabennett@postindependent.com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/crime-briefs-stolen-truck-full-of-money-and-meth-suitcase-belongings-tell-different-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Post Independent<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stolen Dodge Ram, $100 bills, 1.68 grams of meth At approximately 12:12 a.m. Aug. 19, a sergeant with the Garfield County Sheriff\u2019s Office was driving behind a reportedly stolen vehicle near Carbondale.
