{"id":1314082,"date":"2019-08-28T17:48:00","date_gmt":"2019-08-28T23:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/town-of-silt-will-move-on-after-closure\/"},"modified":"2019-08-28T17:48:00","modified_gmt":"2019-08-28T23:48:00","slug":"town-of-silt-will-move-on-after-closure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/town-of-silt-will-move-on-after-closure\/","title":{"rendered":"Town of Silt will move on after closure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Last week the Silt Building Department posted the Community Center building as unsafe and any occupancy is now prohibited.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Closed due to structural safety, the building located at 480 Grand Ave. will sit empty until a plan is put in place to sell or demolish the building.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Residents were invited to discuss the future of the community Center at this week\u2019s Board of Trustees meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">After 15 minutes of discussion and with proposed costs of $1,500 to $2,000 just to have a structural engineer look at the building, the board decided to move forward with a request for proposals (RFP).<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The RFP should help town officials find the best solution for its needs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The former church building has hosted a variety of events and private functions as a community center for several years under the town\u2019s ownership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cIt was closed after deficiencies were discovered in its structure,\u201d according to a town news release issued Friday afternoon. \u201cThe building has been fenced and all are asked to stay well away from the building.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The town has notified all of those who have registered to use the building and given them the alternative of using the nearby Town Center.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">According to Town Administrator Jeff Layman, a routine check of the building on Aug. 5 discovered that the west wall seemed to be buckling and other walls were \u201cleaning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Town Building Inspector Mike Styk examined the building and, along with Public Works Director Trey Fonner, advised it be closed to public use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The building is routinely checked, as are other buildings rented to the public, Layman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Additional inspections confirmed the building is quickly deteriorating, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText Tagline\"><a href=\"mailto:kmills@postindependent.com\">kmills@postindependent.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/town-of-silt-will-move-on-after-closure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Post Independent<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week the Silt Building Department posted the Community Center building as unsafe and any occupancy is now prohibited.
