good deed at Kum &amp; Go leads to officer being threatened"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image p402_hide\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" src=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/02\/PI-crime-briefs-1small.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/02\/PI-crime-briefs-1small.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/02\/PI-crime-briefs-1small-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/02\/PI-crime-briefs-1small-325x183.jpg 325w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong><strong>OFFICERS KNOCK, MAN ANSWERS WITH METH<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At approximately 11:12 a.m. Aug. 31, officers with the Rifle Police Department attempted to locate a male with a previous warrant.<\/p>\n<p>According to the arrest affidavit, the 56-year-old male had a warrant out of Rifle Municipal Court for failure to comply.<\/p>\n<p>When officers arrived at the subject\u2019s residence and knocked on the door, the male answered but \u201ctried to close the door\u201d after being informed of the warrant for his arrest.<\/p>\n<p>One officer blocked the door, stepped inside the residence and placed the male\u2019s hands behind his back according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>After putting the male in handcuffs and removing belongings from his right side, an officer asked if he \u201chad anything else\u201d to which the subject replied \u201cNope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After searching the male\u2019s left side, officers discovered a small container with \u201ca clear crystal substance\u201d in the subject\u2019s front left pocket.<\/p>\n<p>The man was taken into custody at the Rifle Police Department and placed in a holding cell as the clear crystal substance was weighed and tested.<\/p>\n<p>According to the arrest affidavit the 6-gram substance tested \u201cpresumptive positive for methamphetamine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The subject was then transported to the Garfield County Jail without further incident where he was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MENACING AT THE KUM &amp; GO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An officer with the New Castle Police Department was assisting people experiencing car trouble in August.<\/p>\n<p>According to the affidavit, the officer was \u201ccrouching on the front end of the vehicle\u2019s driver side tire which was parked on the west side of the Kum &amp; Go building\u201d around 10:39 p.m. Aug. 23.<\/p>\n<p>Three people informed the officer a male had walked on the other side of the vehicle and gestured with both hands \u201cthe usage of a handgun, pointed at [the officer].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The male said in Spanish to the three people, \u201cI am going to shoot that cop,\u201d according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>The three reporting people stated the male who made the threatening gesture continued to walk past them and into the convenience store.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe citizens told me they all believed he had a gun by the gesture he made and by what he said,\u201d the officer stated in the affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, \u201cThe citizens proceeded to take cover behind a Red Box machine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Upon confronting the 43-year-old suspect, he allegedly told the officer \u201cYou\u2019re always messing with me, why don\u2019t you leave me alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The male continued to try and walk away but was detained by the officer.<\/p>\n<p>After reviewing Kum &amp;
