{"id":1315134,"date":"2019-09-30T12:32:55","date_gmt":"2019-09-30T18:32:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/?p=988416"},"modified":"2019-10-01T08:05:53","modified_gmt":"2019-10-01T14:05:53","slug":"rifle-woman-grand-junction-man-killed-in-wreck-saturday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/rifle-woman-grand-junction-man-killed-in-wreck-saturday\/","title":{"rendered":"Rifle woman, Grand Junction man killed in wreck Saturday"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image p402_hide\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"670\" height=\"522\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/09\/GettyImages-687993928.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt=\"Emergency headlights\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/09\/GettyImages-687993928.jpg 670w, https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/09\/GettyImages-687993928-300x234.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>A Rifle woman was killed in a head-on collision with a suspected drunk driver on Interstate 70 near New Castle on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Groff, 55 of Grand Junction, was declared dead at the scene, according to the Colorado State Patrol.<\/p>\n<p>The other driver was Stephanie Hillian, 36, of Rifle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was transported to Valley View Hospital and pronounced dead sometime later,\u201d CSP spokesperson Josh Lewis said.<\/p>\n<p>I-70 was closed for a short time Saturday evening after the 8:30 p.m. crash.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Colorado State Patrol, Groff may have been impaired by alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlcohol is being looked at as a possible factor,\u201d Lewis said.<\/p>\n<p>Groff was driving in a Hyundai heading eastbound on I-70 just east of New Castle when he collided with a guardrail. His car then crossed the median and collided with the front of Hillian\u2019s Volkswagen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Hyundai collided with the guardrail, then went through the eastbound lands, through the median, and into the westbound lane of traffic, at which point it ended up colliding with the front of the Volkswagen,\u201d Lewis said.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis said he did not have an estimated speed for Groff\u2019s Hyundai. \u201cIt does not appear, initially, that speed is being considered a factor,\u201d Lewis said.<\/p>\n<p>No other vehicles were involved in the accident, Lewis said.<\/p>\n<p><em>This post will be updated.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/rifle-woman-grand-junction-man-killed-in-wreck-saturday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Post Independent<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Rifle woman was killed in a head-on collision with a suspected drunk driver on Interstate 70 near New Castle on Saturday night.
