There\u2019s a deep cut on Garth Brooks\u2019 1995 Fresh Horses<\/em> album that I\u2019ve always loved. It\u2019s called \u201cThe Old Stuff,\u201d and he wrote it with Bryan Kennedy and Dan Roberts.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s about, as you can imagine, what it was like to play in the early days. Back when the old stuff was new. When, he says, it was: Seven pickers and all our gear in a rental van, playin\u2019 music, never sleepin\u2019, and workin\u2019 on a neon tan\/We played The Barn down in Sanford, Florida, for Bev Roberts out in Camden Park, we plugged it in up east at Bull Run and the place went dark.<\/em> (And, oh, the stories he could tell if it weren\u2019t for the code of the road.)<\/p>\n

And now, he\u2019s headed back to The Barn in Sanford.<\/p>\n

Brooks just announced announced that that would be the next stop \u2014 the fourth one \u2014 on his Dive Bar tour. He\u2019ll be there on Oct. 16.<\/p>\n

In his Garth Brooks: The Anthology: Part II<\/em>, he wrote about what those rookie days were really like on the road. The good, bad and ugly. \u201cI just love getting in a van with a bunch of stinky guys, laugh your ass off, go to the club, eat shitty food that\u2019s been there for three days, the bologna has a rainbow on it,\u201d Brooks had said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s the greatest thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd thus it begins. We start with a barn in Sanford Florida. We become a band.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brooks made the announcement during his Facebook Live show this week. \u201cPound for pound, minute for minute, the dive bars are the most exciting gig I\u2019ve ever got to play,\u201d Brooks said. \u201cIt\u2019s total chaos from the second you go on to the second you go off.\u201d<\/p>\n
