Recent power outages in Glenwood Springs have been due to the Xcel Energy project occurring in Glenwood Canyon and windy weather, according to city of Glenwood officials.<\/p>\n
Xcel Energy has been working for the past several weeks to replace and repair approximately 30 transmission and 10 distribution structures in the canyon, and on White River National Forest land, according to a city press release.<\/p>\n
The Xcel Energy Shoshone\/Rifle transmission line from Shoshone in Glenwood Canyon serves the Glenwood Springs Mitchell Creek substation and New Castle.<\/p>\n
Those areas have experienced intermittent power outages during the course of the project, which have affected residences and numerous businesses in the service area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe work is taking place between the Shoshone Hydroelectric Plant and the city of Glenwood Springs and is expected to be complete by the end of October,\u201d according to a statement from Xcel Energy contained in the city\u2019s release.<\/p>\n
\u201cDue to windy weather and other factors recently, residents in the area lost power for a period of time on a few occasions over the past week,\u201d Xcel said in the release. \u201cXcel Energy crews believe they have found the cause of these outages and were able to repair them.\u201d<\/p>\n
