{"id":1315413,"date":"2019-10-08T09:46:13","date_gmt":"2019-10-08T15:46:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/?p=988880"},"modified":"2019-10-08T09:46:13","modified_gmt":"2019-10-08T15:46:13","slug":"city-of-aspens-2020-budget-projected-at-105-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/city-of-aspens-2020-budget-projected-at-105-million\/","title":{"rendered":"City of Aspen\u2019s 2020 budget projected at $105 million"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aspen City Council on Monday got its first look at the municipal government\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/d3n9y02raazwpg.cloudfront.net\/cityofaspen\/cc4791e9-e6e1-11e9-9542-0050569183fa-da76106a-2e02-4fe6-bbb2-ae71e53e957b-1570221925.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">2020 budget<\/a>, which is estimated to be just shy of $105 million.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s nearly 13% lower than the 2019 budget, said City Finance Director Pete Strecker.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because there were big capital items like the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/local\/aspen-city-offices-grow-more-expensive-with-201k-change-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">city\u2019s new office building<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/trending\/city-official-calls-housing-board-extortionists-for-its-financial-ask\/\" target=\"_blank\">affordable housing projects<\/a>&nbsp;that were earmarked in this year\u2019s budget, he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Strecker and other city department heads spent&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CityofAspen\/videos\/755676211528109\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">over three hours during Monday\u2019s work session<\/a>&nbsp;explaining to council the nuances of the budget and how each department works.<\/p>\n<p>There are five work sessions scheduled this month that dive into the budget in detail, with specific department\u2019s expenditures and revenues outlined.<\/p>\n<p>They are scheduled for Oct. 14, 15, 21, 28 and 29.<\/p>\n<p>Council is expected adopt the budget on Nov. 26, with a first reading Nov. 12.<\/p>\n<p>The budget has to be certified by no later than Dec. 15.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/city-of-aspens-2020-budget-projected-at-105-million\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Post Independent<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aspen City Council on Monday got its first look at the municipal government\u2019s&nbsp;2020 budget, which is estimated to be just shy of $105 million.
