And he\u2019s pretty sure he doesn\u2019t feel like one yet. \u201cI don\u2019t feel any different, you know, than anybody else,\u201d he tells CMT. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI certainly don\u2019t try to act any different than anybody else. And I think that\u2019s been the neatest thing. You\u2019re kind of living in these parallel universes where you\u2019re either at home on the couch or you\u2019re onstage in front of 30,000 people. . . . They\u2019ve given him three No. 1 singles in the same year, filled over a million arena seats and kept his This One\u2019s for You album at or near the top of the country albums chart for 122 straight weeks. <\/p>\n<p>And there\u2019s more. He\u2019s the first star since Johnny Cash set the record in 1959 to have five songs at once in the Top 25 on Billboard\u2019s Hot Country Song chart. You always think it could happen, but I don\u2019t think you think it\u2019s gonna happen \u2014 until it does.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The North Carolina native always loved singing. But he didn\u2019t seriously gravitate toward a life in the spotlight until he was a student at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. He played his first country show there at the Parthenon Cafe and gradually built a local following. Neither charted, but by the next year he had signed to Columbia Records and released yet another EP, <em>This One\u2019s for You<\/em>. It made it to No. 24 and served as the nucleus for the full-fledged album of that same title.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Combs scored his first No. 1 single, \u201cHurricane.\u201d He has followed it with five more chart-toppers, \u201cWhen It Rains It Pours\u201d (2017), \u201cOne Number Away,\u201d \u201cShe Got the Best of Me,\u201d \u201cBeautiful Crazy\u201d (2018) and \u201cBeer Never Broke My Heart\u201d (2019). This makes him the only county artist in history to reach No. 1 with his first six singles.
