Looking to avenge a 4A Western Slope League road loss earlier in the season, the Glenwood Springs Demons couldn\u2019t quite figure out the visiting Summit Tigers Tuesday night at Stubler Memorial Field, battling to a 1-1 tie in league play.<\/p>\n

Glenwood jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game thanks to a goal by senior German Alvarado off of an assist from sophomore Reid Swanson, but that would be it on the night in terms of scoring for the Demons. Holding the 1-0 lead, the Demons tried to fend off the Tigers\u2019 attacks, but Summit struck late in the first half to send the two league foes into the break tied at 1-1.<\/p>\n

The Demons tried to break the tie in the second half, but Glenwood just couldn\u2019t find the back of the net despite firing 12 shots on goal in the game.<\/p>\n

Fortunately for Glenwood, standout senior goalkeeper Carlos Guardado was terrific in net once again, stopping 12 Summit shots to preserve the tie.<\/p>\n

The tie pushes Glenwood\u2019s record to 9-1-3 (6-1-3 in 4A WSL). The Demons host the Rifle Bears Saturday at Stubler Memorial Field in another 4A WSL battle.<\/p>\n

VOLLEYBALL<\/p>\n

Glenwood Springs 3, Eagle Valley 2<\/p>\n

Making the trip to Gypsum Tuesday night to take on the Eagle Valley Devils in 4A Western Slope League play, the Glenwood Springs Demons\u2019 girls volleyball team stayed unbeaten in league play, picking up a hard-fought 5-set win over the Devils, winning by scores of 25-15, 20-25, 20-25, 25-12, and 15-9.<\/p>\n

Against the Devils, senior Kaitlyn Johnson had a dominant night, recording 18 kills, 21 digs and two blocks.<\/p>\n

Senior Emily Nilsson had a great night as well, recording 34 assists, seven kills, 11 digs and two aces.<\/p>\n

Senior Shanik Zambrano added seven kills, 16 digs and two blocks.<\/p>\n

Junior Reese Goluba chipped in with 29 digs and four aces, while sophomore Kenzie Winder added four kills, two aces, five digs and four blocks. Junior Charlotte Olszewski added five kills and four blocks, while junior Kiah Larson added four kills and six blocks.<\/p>\n

Glenwood Springs improves to 13-3 on the year, including a sparkling 9-0 in the 4A WSL. The Demons host Summit Thursday inside Chavez-Spencer Gymnasium with a chance to move one game closer to a league championship.<\/p>\n
