{"id":1316021,"date":"2019-10-23T18:08:35","date_gmt":"2019-10-24T00:08:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/?p=989978"},"modified":"2019-10-23T18:08:35","modified_gmt":"2019-10-24T00:08:35","slug":"glenwoods-north-landing-sculpture-tubing-on-the-colorado-to-be-unveiled-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/glenwoods-north-landing-sculpture-tubing-on-the-colorado-to-be-unveiled-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"Glenwood\u2019s north landing sculpture \u2018Tubing on the Colorado\u2019 to be unveiled Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image p402_hide\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/10\/IMG_0947-1024x768.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/10\/IMG_0947-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/10\/IMG_0947-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/10\/IMG_0947-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"><figcaption><strong>The north landing site along Sixth Street where the &#8220;Tubing on the Colorado&#8221; statue will reside.<\/strong><br \/><em>Matthew Bennett\/Post Independent<\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Since May, artist Madeline Wiener has sculpted a 24,000 pound piece of Yule Marble into a 10,000-plus pound sculpture titled, \u201cTubing on the Colorado.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sculpture will reside permanently on the north landing site along Sixth Street where the former Grand Avenue Bridge once touched down in Glenwood Springs.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning at 11 a.m. Friday, the city will host a dedication ceremony for the sculpture at the north landing site.<\/p>\n<p>According to a news release, the event, which is open to the public will include light refreshments and activities for children.<\/p>\n<p>Wiener, whose work is featured across the country from the Denver Botanic Gardens to Ocean Springs, Mississippi oftentimes invites people to interact with her sculptures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has a multitude of climbing possibilities for any little kid,\u201d Wiener said of the sculpture. \u201cAnd, any adult that were to come by would feel they could sit on the [sculpture\u2019s] feet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sculpted out of Yule Marble from Colorado Stone Quarries, Wiener said \u201cTubing on the Colorado\u201d was approximately four feet tall, six feet long and five feet wide.<\/p>\n<p>Following public input meetings, Wiener said several ideas were discussed for the sculpture including a Ute tribal chief, farmers, ranchers, miners, skiers, explorers and more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey started narrowing down the field of interests and one area, of course, was the river. The river is Glenwood,\u201d Wiener said. \u201cBut, the bottom line that it came down to was family.
