{"id":1316950,"date":"2019-11-25T13:43:17","date_gmt":"2019-11-25T20:43:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/?p=991091"},"modified":"2019-11-25T13:43:17","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T20:43:17","slug":"pounds-of-turkey-inches-of-snow-winter-weather-waddles-toward-garfield-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/pounds-of-turkey-inches-of-snow-winter-weather-waddles-toward-garfield-county\/","title":{"rendered":"Pounds of turkey, inches of snow; winter weather waddles toward Garfield County"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image p402_hide\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/11\/snow-tires-1024x683.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt=\"Closeup of car tires in winter\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/11\/snow-tires-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/11\/snow-tires-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/11\/snow-tires-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Whether hitting the road or staying put, Garfield County residents should see their fair share of winter weather this week.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight, the first of two storm systems will roll through the area &nbsp;according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Dennis Phillips.<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service anticipates unfavorable travel conditions \u201cleading up to, during and after Thanksgiving, especially in the mountains.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSnow ought to start falling pretty good probably by mid-evening [Monday],\u201d Phillips said.<\/p>\n<p>Phillips believed the first storm system could produce snow through Tuesday morning in lower elevations and into the afternoon for higher terrains within Garfield County.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou might be lucky to hit 30 [degrees], maybe, up there in Glenwood,\u201d Phillips said of Tuesday\u2019s high temperature.&nbsp;\u201cOvernight lows, probably, in the single digits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Phillips said the first storm system could generate between 2 and 5 inches of snow depending on location and elevation in Garfield County.<\/p>\n<p>After the first storm system moves through the area, Phillips said Wednesday should stay mainly dry and warm up slightly with high temperatures in the low 40s.<\/p>\n<p>However, the winter weather will return on Thanksgiving when another storm system makes its way across portions of the Western Slope.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe main storm system will come through, probably, Thursday evening and this is going to be a much bigger storm.\u201d Phillips said. \u201cThe big push \u2026 in most of Garfield County will be probably Thursday evening through Friday morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Phillips did not have an estimation of how much snow Garfield County may accumulate as result of the second storm system other than to say a fairly significant amount was possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be another good snowmaker,\u201d Phillips said.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"mailto:mabennett@postindependent.com\">mabennett@postindependent.com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/pounds-of-turkey-inches-of-snow-winter-weather-waddles-toward-garfield-county\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Post Independent<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Whether hitting the road or staying put, Garfield County residents should see their fair share of winter weather this week.
