This week, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmt.com\/artists\/blake-shelton\">Blake Shelton<\/a> talks about his 2013 single, \u201cBoys Round Here.\u201d CMT Hot 20 Countdown airs at 9\/8c Saturday and Sunday mornings.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>CMT: What did you think the first time you heard \u201cBoys Round Here\u201d? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Shelton: The first time I heard \u201cBoys Round Here,\u201d I literally lost my mind. It was a demo and all the writers on it Craig [Wiseman] and Rhett [Akins] and Dallas [Davidson] all their voices were all over the demo because I don\u2019t think none of them could decide who they wanted to sing it, as far as the demo.<\/p>\n<div class=\"deferred_content\"> Embedded from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JXAgv665J14?feature=oembed\">www.youtube.com<\/a>. <noscript class=\"deferred_content\" data-deferred-info=\"{&quot;type&quot;:&quot;iframe&quot;}\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JXAgv665J14?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen>\t<\/iframe><\/noscript>\n<\/div>\n<p>They had so much fun writing it and that how I felt when I heard it. It was like, \u201cMan, that song sounds like someone turned on their iPhone recorder in the middle of a party.\u201d And that\u2019s what they ended up with on the recording. <\/p>\n<p>When we made the record I wanted it to feel like that, so that\u2019s why I thought, \u201cMan, I have to bring in all the firepower that I can.\u201d At the time I remember talking to Miranda and saying, \u201cPlease, we need to get the Pistol Annies on this record.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>So they came in and sang on it and my friend RaeLynn came in and sang on it. Rhett Akins\u2019 voice is on the record, Dallas Davidson\u2019s voice is on the record. No matter what you do, if it\u2019s successful in this business, there\u2019s gonna be haters out there. But I embrace that and I embrace the goofiness of \u201cBoys Round Here.\u201d It\u2019s not meant to do anything other than make you smile and wanna have a beer and laugh. <\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s literally all it\u2019s about. And it\u2019s just goofy enough that it accomplishes that. There\u2019s always that moment in my concerts when I do the song and the guys and the girls are into this song. The whole second verse is about the girl round here and they love it. Any time there\u2019s an important event I get a call from John Esposito, the president of Warner Nashville, and he\u2019s like, \u201cAny chance you\u2019ll do \u2019Boys Round Here\u2019? That\u2019s your biggest selling song, right?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>I hosted <em>SNL<\/em> a couple years ago, way after \u201cBoys Round Here\u201d came and gone, and John was calling, going, \u201cAny chance you can do \u2019Boys Round Here\u2019 on <em>SNL<\/em>?\u201d and I was like, \u201cOK, we\u2019ll do it.\u201d I get it. People like that song. You\u2019ve had a great 10 years.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Yeah, back when I was first getting started as a recording artist and I had a hit or two, people would say, \u201cWhat\u2019s your goal? Where do you see yourself in 10 years from now?\u201d My answer was always, \u201cI want to have a career like George Strait. Just that longevity and that consistency \u2014 of course, don\u2019t we all? <\/p>\n<p>But I can look back now the last 10 years or so of my career, and just the way the cards have fallen, I have had that consistency. Most of our singles that we\u2019ve put out have at least got a lot of airplay on the radio. People will remember them and we\u2019ll find that in the next 10 years.
