For New Castle Diner owner David Souders, the end of 2019 was bittersweet.<\/p>\n

After owning and operating the Diner for nearly a decade, Souders decided it was time to move on.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am just feeling tired,\u201d Souders said. \u201cAnd, I wanted to go out on top.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Dec. 27 the New Castle Diner served its last meal \u2014 at least for the time being.<\/p>\n

Souders, who rents the space at 820 Castle Valley Blvd. in New Castle near City Market, said he plans on selling the business.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a turnkey operation,\u201d Souders said of when he purchased the eatery in 2010. \u201cI own everything that is in here; the landlord just has the building.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the neon-lit memorabilia to the red-and-white barstools and soda fountain, Souders plans on selling the \u201950s-themed diner just like he bought it \u2014 ready to rock and roll.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have somebody now that is supposed to be interested,\u201d Souders said. \u201cI can\u2019t guarantee [anything] because we\u2019ve just talked a few times.\u201d<\/p>\n

Having worked in restaurants practically his entire life, Souders said the 14- to 18-hour days of cooking and cleaning had taken its toll.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love my staff,\u201d Souders said. \u201cThat was the hardest part.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Souders, the New Castle resident said he had no plans other than to take some time off.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m all finished. I\u2019m moving on,\u201d Souders said. \u201cI don\u2019t know what I\u2019m doing; no plans \u2026 it\u2019s all going to take its place and work out.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Souders, over the years, the Diner\u2019s most popular dishes were its biscuits and gravy and huevos rancheros.<\/p>\n
