{"id":1317534,"date":"2020-01-05T18:29:00","date_gmt":"2020-01-06T01:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/?p=992347"},"modified":"2020-01-05T18:29:00","modified_gmt":"2020-01-06T01:29:00","slug":"christmas-tree-drop-off-site-in-glenwood-springs-now-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/christmas-tree-drop-off-site-in-glenwood-springs-now-open\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas tree drop-off site in Glenwood Springs now open"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/03\/facebook-thumbnail-1200.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>With the holiday season over, Glenwood Springs\u2019 Christmas tree drop-off site has opened.<\/p>\n<p>Located at the old rodeo grounds on Airport Road adjacent to the Glenwood Springs airport, the Christmas tree drop-off location officially opened on New Year\u2019s Eve and will remain open until Jan. 31.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would appreciate it if all ornaments, lights, toppers, garland [and other decorations] would be removed from the trees prior to drop-off,\u201d Matthew Langhorst, director of public works, said. \u201cIf you have wrapped your tree up in a bag to remove it from your home, please remove the bag and take it home with you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although located in the same area where the leaf drop-off occurs in the fall, the site will only accept Christmas trees until the end of January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not a time to bring yard waste or trash,\u201d Langhorst said.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, that type of waste needs to go to the city\u2019s South Canyon landfill, Langhorst explained.<\/p>\n<p>Langhorst also asked residents not to leave Christmas trees outside of the site\u2019s gates or attempt to throw holiday trees over the fence when the site closes at the end of the month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a frequent event that just causes confusion for others and more work for city crews,\u201d Langhorst said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Langhorst, the free service brings in large volumes of Christmas trees each year, which crews chip up and transport to the landfill for composting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have never kept track of how many trees we take in,\u201d Langhorst said. \u201cI can tell you that it\u2019s a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"mailto:mabennett@postindependent.com\">mabennett@postindependent.com<\/a> <\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/christmas-tree-drop-off-site-in-glenwood-springs-now-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Post Independent<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the holiday season over, Glenwood Springs\u2019 Christmas tree drop-off site has opened.
