As befitted the Knights\u2019 rootsy, low-budget origin (they regularly played Hooters\u2019 parking lots in their heyday) the event was catered by Waffle House.<\/p>\n<div class=\"deferred_content\"> Embedded from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MloUEecdmQs?feature=oembed\">www.youtube.com<\/a>. <noscript class=\"deferred_content\" data-deferred-info=\"{&quot;type&quot;:&quot;iframe&quot;}\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MloUEecdmQs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen>\t<\/iframe><\/noscript>\n<\/div>\n<p>Even so, there were piles of free Knights-monogrammed hoodies, ski caps and fanny packs for the several dozen reporters and industry hangers-on to grab and re-sell on eBay. Also peppered throughout the crowd were friends and kinfolks from the Knights\u2019 hometown, which bandleader and lead singer Douglas D. Douglason identified as Moose Knuckle, Tennessee, \u201cright across the river from Camel Toe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The focus of the press conference was to reveal that Universal Music Group Nashville has signed the Knights to a recording contract and will release their first single, \u201cPick Her Up,\u201d to country radio on Feb. 3. The single features guest vocals from \u201990s icon Travis Tritt. \u201cHe\u2019s really our spirit animal,\u201d Douglason told the crowd. Let\u2019s just be clear here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Legendary disc jockey and songwriter Gerry House served as master of ceremonies. The band still does much of its recording in \u201cTrevor\u2019s mom\u2019s basement,\u201d and several of the band members cited her as an ongoing inspiration.<\/p>\n<p>Douglas said he detected base motives in Bentley\u2019s eagerness to work with the band. \u201cThe \u201990s are hot right now. But the crowd was treated to four-song sampling of songs already recorded. It included \u201cPick Her Up,\u201d a veritable how-to on drive-through romancing; \u201cMull It Over,\u201d a paean to the historic hairstyle and those who live and die by it; \u201cUSA Begins With Us,\u201d a tongue-on-cheek rave-up of every patriotic clich\u00e9 in the book; and \u201cAsphalt,\u201d in which derriere double-entendre flower like rag weed (\u201cIt ain\u2019t my fault, it\u2019s the asphalt.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>Pump up your hair, girls.
