Matthew Bennett \/ Post Independent<\/strong><br \/><em>IMG_1687<\/em><br \/><a class=\"buy-link\" href=\"http:\/\/postindependent.mycapture.com\/mycapture\/remoteimage.asp?backtext=Return+to+PostIndependent.com&amp;backurl=https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/colorado-gov-jared-polis-visits-glenwood-springs\/&amp;image=https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/IMG_1687-1024x768.jpeg&amp;notes=https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/IMG_1687-scaled.jpeg\"><i class=\"fas fa-shopping-cart\"><\/i> Buy Photo<\/a><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Following his tour of the site located just east of Iron Mountain Hot Springs and immediately south of Interstate 70, the governor headed to Morgridge Commons.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>John Krousouloudis, chair of the Garfield County Democrats, introduced Polis to the nearly 100 people in attendance Friday morning.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe took on the role over a year ago, and what I personally love is he\u2019s delivering results,\u201d Krousouloudis said.<\/p>\n<p>Polis discussed the ongoing mission of examining state-owned properties and how they could be repurposed to meet the needs of local communities like Glenwood Springs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re doing a full inventory of all of our state-owned properties,\u201d Polis said. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to partner with you for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Polis also commended Glenwood Springs for becoming one of the few cities in the U.S. to be powered entirely by renewable energy. Last year, city council unanimously approved a resolution to purchase wind power supplied by the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was just highlighting Glenwood Springs and Aspen at the Net Zero Cities conference in Loveland yesterday,\u201d Polis said. \u201cOf course our goal is 100% renewable energy statewide by 2040.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to housing and renewable energy, it wasn\u2019t long before COVID-19 was brought up. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) announced Thursday that two people had tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Colorado.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to act initially, strongly and boldly to try to contain it,\u201d Polis said. \u201cCongress did get their act together to pass an emergency supplemental (bill) of about $8 billion, which we\u2019re appreciative of.
