{"id":1318664,"date":"2020-03-10T23:00:01","date_gmt":"2020-03-11T05:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/aspen-businesses-are-keeping-their-acts-clean\/"},"modified":"2020-03-10T23:00:01","modified_gmt":"2020-03-11T05:00:01","slug":"aspen-businesses-are-keeping-their-acts-clean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/aspen-businesses-are-keeping-their-acts-clean\/","title":{"rendered":"Aspen businesses are keeping their acts clean"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-image p402_hide\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/bizcorona-atd-031120-1024x768.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-post-image\" alt srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/bizcorona-atd-031120-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/bizcorona-atd-031120-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/bizcorona-atd-031120-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/bizcorona-atd-031120-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/bizcorona-atd-031120.jpg 1778w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"><figcaption><strong>Customers line up on Tuesday afternoon at Paradise Bakery, which no longer is offering free samples while coronavirus concerns persist.<\/strong><br \/><em>Rick Carroll\/The Aspen Times<\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Clean living in Aspen has been evident this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">But if you\u2019re Jimmy Yeager, the owner of a downtown restaurant, it should always be that way in the service industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cIt\u2019s pretty simple: It\u2019s practice good hygiene and go about your business as normal,\u201d Yeager said Tuesday, as townsfolk and visitors awaited the results of the tests for 10 Australians quarantined who were possibly exposed to the COVID-19 virus (see page A13).<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cWe\u2019re in a town where you constantly hear that the stomach flu is going around, a stomach bug is going around, whatever,\u201d added Yeager, who has run Jimmy\u2019s An American Restaurant &amp; Bar since 1997. \u201cThis is not new and we\u2019re treating it like it\u2019s not any different and continue to practice good hygiene.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Business as usual was something several people said Tuesday, but there\u2019s no mistaking that Aspen has had a different vibe this week given the news that an Australian woman who recently visited town tested positive for the COVID-19 virus when she returned home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">She was here with a group of 18 Australians, not all of whom were tested or reported experiencing fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties \u2014 all of which are symptoms associated with the disease, <a id=\"N0x2b98570N0x2d83350:N0x2b98570N0x2be0b20\" href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/local\/aspen-businesses-are-keeping-their-acts-clean\/\">according to the World Health Organization.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Another locally owned Aspen business downtown, Paradise Bakery, has made some adjustments such as no longer offering complimentary samples of muffins and cookies on the shop counter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Owner Mark Patterson said the move was an easy measure to take, and it\u2019s better to play it safe at a time when the news is in flux and speculation and rumors abound.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cIt\u2019s just a heightened awareness,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Paradise and other coffee shops also aren\u2019t filling customers\u2019 reusable mugs to limit personal contact between employees and the public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Like Yeager, Patterson said Aspen is accustomed to flu season, so the practices needed to keep the illness at bay \u2014 washing hands, wiping counters, for instance \u2014 are fairly standard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cWe\u2019re aware of how stuff spreads because we\u2019re conscious of the flu season,\u201d he said, adding \u201cit\u2019s amazing how there is something new every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Donnie Lee, who manages The Gant condominium-hotel, said employees are to stay home if they\u2019re running a fever or showing other signs. That can take its toll on the human side of the operation, he said, because The Gant, like other Aspen businesses, runs on lean staffs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">Lee said he has emphasized to his employees that because the virus is \u201cso easily transmitted from person to person,\u201d keeping a clean operation is essential.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cWe are operating under a heightened sense of caution,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">The Gant has seen a few canceled reservations because of coronavirus, but Lee said his greater concern is the lack of reservations moving forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText\">\u201cWe\u2019re not really getting any new reservations,\u201d he said. \u201cThat has really slowed down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"STND-STND BodyText Tagline\"><a href=\"mailto:rcarroll@aspentimes.com\">rcarroll@aspentimes.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/local\/aspen-businesses-are-keeping-their-acts-clean\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Post Independent<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Customers line up on Tuesday afternoon at Paradise Bakery, which no longer is offering free samples while coronavirus concerns persist.Rick Carroll\/The Aspen Times Clean living in Aspen has been evident this week.
