Send it to Editor Peter Baumann at <a href=\"mailto:pbaumann@postindependent.com\">pbaumann@postindependent.com<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19 has led to a laundry list of event cancellations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/roaring-fork-schools-cancel-school-for-next-week-amid-heightened-covid-19-concerns\/\">school closures<\/a> and even forced Walt Disney World to shut down.<\/p>\n<p>However, the novel coronavirus hasn\u2019t stopped Bella Barnum Collier from doing what she loves most \u2014 dancing.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2017 and based out of Glenwood Springs at 901 Colorado Ave., in the Masonic Lodge, Legacy Dance Company closed last Friday as a precautionary measure amid all of the COVID-19 concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard when you\u2019re stuck at home to think of things to do,\u201d Collier, who serves as Legacy Dance Company\u2019s CEO, said. \u201cThere\u2019s been amazing resources for scholastic things, but not a lot of online resources or virtual resources for activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Enter #ldcdanceoff.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping social distancing in mind, Legacy Dance Company launched a daily dance-off challenge intended for children who are out of school and parents who can\u2019t go to work.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to keep those kids and adults moving and smiling \u2013 in the comfort of their own homes \u2014 Collier will post a dance challenge to Legacy Dance Company\u2019s website, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legacydancegws.com\/\">legacydancegws.com<\/a>, and its social media channels for people to dance along with daily.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll be posting an easy, step-by-step tutorial of different (dances),\u201d Collier said. \u201cThen they can follow along, learn it and then record themself doing the dance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Monday\u2019s challenge was dancing to the \u201cMacarena.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the 30-second video, Collier teaches all of the moves to the popular Spanish tune in her family\u2019s living room, sometimes with the help of her mini Australian shepherd puppies Rocket and Ranger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll be doing challenges every day,\u201d Collier said. \u201cSome will be easier, like today was the \u2018Macarena,\u2019 and other days will be choreography. But, everything will be super simple and fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Collier encourages community members to make their own videos of themselves dancing to the same tune and to share it using the hashtag #ldcdanceoff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey can post that either on [Legacy Dance Company\u2019s] Facebook page or their personal social media,\u201d Collier said. \u201cThe goal is to just make you laugh a little,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Collier made the decision to close Legacy Dance Company, for the time being, it wasn\u2019t one she took lightly.<\/p>\n<p>Collier hoped Legacy Dance Company would reopen its doors following spring break, but said such a decision obviously depends on the status of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>Until then, Collier said she hopes that the dance-off challenge would keep people in good spirits, whether they call themselves dancers or not.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDance is such a cool medium of expression,\u201d Collier said. \u201cDance is an opportunity to express your inner feelings without even having to say a single word.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"mailto:mabennett@postindependent.com\">mabennett@postindependent.com<\/a> <\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/legacy-dance-company-in-glenwood-springs-launches-dance-off-challenge-to-inspire-those-stuck-at-home-to-keep-moving-and-smiling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Post Independent<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Legacy Dance Company CEO Bella Barnum Collier and her son Jesse perform Monday&#8217;s dance off challenge from their living room.
