During Friday\u2019s online community forum, Valley View Hospital Emergency Medicine Physician Dr. Ben Peery stressed the critical need for self-distancing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there is one strategy that is going to slow the spread of this virus and keep people safe it is people avoiding public places, avoiding each other (and) really trying to isolate,\u201d Peery said.<\/p>\n

At the community forum that was hosted by the city of Glenwood Springs and Valley View Hospital, it wasn\u2019t long before one participant asked about COVID-19 testing availability.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe unfortunate reality is that testing facilities in the state are overwhelmed. The turnaround for most of the testing resources that we have is about five days,\u201d Peery said. \u201cWe don\u2019t have any sense of when a more rapid and more available testing service is going to come online.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a statewide problem,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Peery said COVID-19 testing was being conducted largely on hospitalized patients and those in the higher risk category like immunocompromised individuals and symptomatic patients over the age of 65.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are treating every patient with respiratory symptoms as a COVID patient,\u201d Peery said. \u201cIt also means for the community \u2014 stay home \u2014 because our assumption is that\u2019s everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

During Friday\u2019s forum Mayor Godes also announced that beginning Monday, the city would temporarily suspend Ride Glenwood and all, non-critical flights at the Glenwood Springs Municipal Airport.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe airport will maintain all critical emergency medical, search and rescue and fire emergency services,\u201d Godes said. \u201cClassic Air Medical, the fueling, the helicopter pad \u2014 they\u2019re all going to be staying open.\u201d<\/p>\n

The public transit system, Ride Glenwood, services the community center, the Glenwood Meadows, the West Glenwood Mall, U.S. Highway 6 and 24, downtown and the Roaring Fork Marketplace.<\/p>\n

Individuals with a disability that would like to discuss their travel options due to Ride Glenwood\u2019s absence can contact RFTA at 970-945-9117.<\/p>\n

According to a news release, RFTA accesses many of Ride Glenwood\u2019s pick-up and drop-off locations.<\/p>\n

Godes, like Peery, emphasized how community members must adhere to social distancing and all of the safety guidelines and mandates associated with COVID-19.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake this seriously,\u201d Godes said. \u201cWe have to be resolute in this.\u201d<\/p>\n
