Jack Affleck \/ Photo Provided<\/strong><br \/><em><\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>From its perch at 7,100 feet above sea level, the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park has been pretty quiet lately.<\/p>\n<p>Since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/adventure-park-iron-mountain-remains-closed-set-tentative-reopening-for-april-17\/\">shutting down<\/a> earlier this month due to the coronavirus pandemic, the park \u2014 generally bustling with locals and tourists alike \u2014 has come to a standstill, at least for the time being.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cColorado Experience,\u201d a series about the state\u2019s most iconic people, places and events, will showcase the historic Fairy Caves in an episode set to air Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis show is so special to us as it chronicles the history of the Fairy Caves as well as Glenwood Springs,\u201d Jeanne Beckley, who co-owns the adventure park with her husband Steve Beckley, said in a news release. \u201cWe got a sneak preview and it brought tears to my eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Every year, \u201cColorado Experience\u201d asks viewers to submit their own episode ideas for the popular series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe always get a long list of interesting and important topics,\u201d Producer Eric Hernandez said in the news release.<\/p>\n<p>According to Hernandez, last year, the show received 360 submissions.<\/p>\n<p>However, that lengthy list was eventually whittled down to six finalists spanning various regions and eras.<\/p>\n<p>Fans voted for their favorite entry and ultimately the Fairy Caves at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park came out on top.<\/p>\n<p>According to Steve Beckley, the majority of filming occurred at the park last May and concluded a few months ago.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s premiere will examine the Fairy Caves\u2019 rich history, including when Charles W. Darrow first opened them to visitors in 1895.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince then we\u2019ve found so much more,\u201d Beckley said.<\/p>\n<p>In the late 19th century, explorers believed the caves extended about 800 feet.<\/p>\n<p>Today, over 4 miles of passageways have been mapped in the Fairy Caves, Beckley explained.<\/p>\n<p>The adventure park had planned on hosting a watch party for Thursday night\u2019s episode, but that was canceled in conjunction with the park\u2019s temporary closure.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Beckleys still hoped the community would tune in from home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really excited about it.
