Matthew Bennett \/ Post Independent<\/strong><br \/><em><\/em><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Generally lively with bands, food vendors, art and dancing in the streets, Carbondale\u2019s Creative District has looked and sounded quite a bit different lately.<\/p>\n<p>But Thunder River Theatre Company, Carbondale Creative District and the Carbondale Chamber, however plan to still bring the community together, virtually, for one of the town\u2019s most beloved traditions \u2014 First Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Thunder River Theatre Company recently launched a free online series titled ThunderStream, which provides virtual mini performances from the theatre\u2019s Consensual Improv! comedy troupe, Diva Cabaret singers, local musicians and other artists amid the stay-at-home order.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe decided right away that we wanted to innovate and retool as quickly as possible,\u201d said Corey Simpson, Thunder River Theatre Company executive artistic director. \u201cWe still believe in our mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\">\n<div class=\"row gspi-donation gspi-donation-mobile p-0\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-4 p-2\">\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/PI-logo-white.png)\" class=\"p-0 mt-2 mb-2 h-75 text-center rocket-lazyload\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/PI-logo-white.png\" class=\"logo m-0 p-0 invisible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/pi-banner-paypal.jpg)\" class=\"col-xl-8 p-3 text-center rocket-lazyload\">\n<h3 class=\"d-inline mr-3\">Support Local Journalism<\/h3>\n<p><button class=\"btn d-inline\" type=\"button\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/donate\/?utm_source=article&amp;utm_medium=website&amp;utm_campaign=donation&amp;utm_term=&amp;utm_content=mid-article\">Donate<\/a><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Thunder River Theatre Company has brought residents from throughout the Roaring Fork Valley together since 1995, and hopes to continue doing so via ThunderStream.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe platform that we\u2019ve created online is really a flexible platform and a perfect way for us to have lots of different activities and performances happening all remotely,\u201d Simpson said.<\/p>\n<p>During April\u2019s virtual First Friday, local distillers will share cocktail recipes, artists will open up their studios and musicians will still perform, just virtually.<\/p>\n<p>According to Simpson, viewers can also expect an appearance from the Consensual Improv! comedy troupe too.<\/p>\n<p>Carbondale Arts Executive Director Amy Kimberly and Simpson will host the virtual event set to go live at 6 p.m. on ThunderStream.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re just happy to carry on the tradition of First Friday, in whatever form,\u201d Kimberly said. \u201cJust to see each other, even if it\u2019s from afar or virtually, I think will feel good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anyone can access ThunderStream for free on <a href=\"https:\/\/thunderrivertheatre.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">thunderrivertheatre.com<\/a><i class=\"fas fa-external-link-alt\"><\/i>, or on Thunder River Theatre Company\u2019s official Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>Since launching on March 28, ThunderStream has featured a happy hour with its Consensual Improv! comedy troupe, a live performance from award-winning actor and musician Bob Moore as well as First Friday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Simpson, ThunderStream will also offer a playwriting camp and twice-a-week music classes for children in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>A 14-year resident of Carbondale, Simpson has been to his fair share of First Friday\u2019s over the years, and was looking forward to April\u2019s virtual installment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s just a reminder that we can all pull together and still be a community,\u201d Simpson said. \u201cThat fact that we are innovating to continue being creative is just really exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"mailto:mabennett@postindependent.com\">mabennett@postindependent.com<\/a> <\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.postindependent.com\/news\/virtually-intact-thunder-river-theatre-companys-thunderstream-moves-first-friday-to-the-web\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Post Independent<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Member of Thunder River Theatre Company enjoy a toast during a ThunderStream happy hour earlier this week.
