{"id":1319621,"date":"2020-04-23T16:13:27","date_gmt":"2020-04-23T22:13:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/?p=477165"},"modified":"2020-04-24T13:29:51","modified_gmt":"2020-04-24T19:29:51","slug":"eagle-county-receives-relief-from-colorado-stay-at-home-orders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/eagle-county-receives-relief-from-colorado-stay-at-home-orders\/","title":{"rendered":"Eagle County receives relief from Colorado stay-at-home orders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulating Eagle County on Thursday for its response to COVID-19, the state\u2019s top public health official, Jill Ryan, granted the county\u2019s request for exemptions from state orders on stringent stay-at-home requirements and gatherings of less than 10.<\/p>\n<p>The exemptions will also allow for the opening of certain parks and businesses including retail and service, provided social distancing guidelines are followed.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan, the executive director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and a former Eagle County commissioner who lives in Edwards, attended a meeting of the Eagle County commissioners in-person to grant the request.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you, and very good job Eagle County,\u201d Ryan said in granting the request.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\" readability=\"6\">\n<div class=\"row vail-donation vail-donation-mobile p-0\" readability=\"7\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-4 p-2\">\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/03\/VD-logo-white.png)\" class=\"p-0 mt-2 mb-2 h-75 text-center rocket-lazyload\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/03\/VD-logo-white.png\" class=\"logo m-0 p-0 invisible\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h3 class=\"d-inline mr-3\">Support Local Journalism<\/h3>\n<p><button class=\"btn d-inline\" type=\"button\" onclick=\"handleDonationButtonClickMidArticle()\">Donate<\/button><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Gov. Jared Polis also attended the meeting, but not in person. Polis was in the room via a large screen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way that Vail Health, the county health department, the commissioners, really everybody stepped up to get the valley, through this crisis has been an inspiration to the rest of the state,\u201d Polis said.<\/p>\n<p>Heath Harmon, Eagle County public health director, made the official request to Ryan, and in doing so, also made a request to the community.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Commitments of containment\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Harmon asked residents to take a pledge of five commitments, which the county is calling its commitments of containment.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Maintain 6 feet of distance from people outside of your household at all times. \u201cEven as we start to lift these restrictions \u2026 we are not lifting that minimum 6 feet of distance,\u201d Harmon said.<\/li>\n<li>Wash hands frequently. \u201cAnd remember, when you\u2019re washing them, wash them for 20 seconds,\u201d Harmon said.<\/li>\n<li>Cover your face when you\u2019re out in public. \u201cEspecially as you\u2019re going into \u2026 areas where you might have more frequent contact with individuals,\u201d Harmon said.<\/li>\n<li>Stay home when you\u2019re sick. \u201cThis is still an area of challenge that we hear from so many other communities,\u201d Harmon said.<\/li>\n<li>If you\u2019re sick, get tested immediately. \u201cIt\u2019s with that testing result that we can actually make sure that the isolation you need for your recovery is also helping to prevent that exposure to others,\u201d Harmon said.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>No one currently hospitalized<\/h2>\n<p>Vail Health CEO Will Cook said currently the hospital does not have a single COVID-19 patient.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe haven\u2019t had a patient on a ventilator since March 27,\u201d Cook said.<\/p>\n<p>Cook said Vail Health\u2019s system also includes Colorado Mountain Medical and works closely with the Medicare and Medicaid providers Mountain Family Health Center.<\/p>\n<p>Cook said along with the county\u2019s mobile testing unit, which visits low-income areas and tests those with symptoms, Vail Health has \u201cline of sight on all the various places that someone could call in with a complaint of symptoms, so that we can test rapidly.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Recreation should be near home<\/h2>\n<p>County Commissioner Jeanie McQueeney said she wanted to make it clear that Eagle County is not ready to welcome visitors.<\/p>\n<p>Safer at home \u201cis recreating near your home, and it is not going to the mountains for the weekend,\u201d McQueeney said. \u201cWe\u2019re able to take this step for our residents. \u2026 We need to do this community by community. It\u2019s not a free for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Polis clarified that recreating near one\u2019s home means within 10 miles, and hikers and bikers should be wearing masks on the trail for those moments when they encounter one another in close quarters.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Polis said Eagle County was an inspiration to both Colorado and the United States as a whole in addressing the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(Eagle County) was one of the hardest-hit counties, not just in the state, but in the entire country, relative to the population,\u201d Polis said. \u201cSo it\u2019s only appropriate that having been hit first, Eagle County is able to enter a more sustainable phase a little bit earlier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/news\/eagle-county-receives-relief-from-colorado-stay-at-home-orders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Vail Daily<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulating Eagle County on Thursday for its response to COVID-19, the state\u2019s top public health official, Jill Ryan, granted the county\u2019s request for exemptions from state orders on stringent stay-at-home requirements and gatherings of less than 10.
