Anna Stonehouse\/The Aspen Times<\/strong><br \/><\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Aspen Skiing Co. plans to launch summer operations at Aspen Mountain on June 12 with some concessions to construction and the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>The Silver Queen Gondola will start operating June 12 and run daily through Sept. 6, Skico Senior Vice President John Rigney said Tuesday at an Aspen Chamber Resort Association meeting. The gondola will continue to operate on weekends through Oct. 4.<\/p>\n<p>At Snowmass, the Elk Camp Gondola will start operating June 21 with daily rides through Sept. 6 and then weekends through Oct. 4.<\/p>\n<p>Skico\u2019s plans still need to be reviewed by state and local regulatory agencies to make sure they adhere with proper health precautions, company officials said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col\" readability=\"6\">\n<div class=\"row gspi-donation gspi-donation-mobile p-0\" readability=\"7\">\n<div class=\"col-xl-4 p-2\">\n<div data-bg=\"url(https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/PI-logo-white.png)\" class=\"p-0 mt-2 mb-2 h-75 text-center rocket-lazyload\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.postindependent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2020\/03\/PI-logo-white.png\" class=\"logo m-0 p-0 invisible\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><h3 class=\"d-inline mr-3\">Support Local Journalism<\/h3>\n<p><button class=\"btn d-inline\" type=\"button\" onclick=\"handleDonationButtonClickMidArticle()\">Donate<\/button><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWith the gondolas, we\u2019re lucky because we\u2019re able to load by families or known parties traveling together,\u201d Rigney said.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals who want to ride alone will be accommodated, he said. The gondola cabins will be cleaned and disinfected each day.<\/p>\n<p>Aspen Mountain is looking at disruptions to usual summer activities for reasons that have nothing to do with the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll along we were going to have construction atop Aspen Mountain and our calendar kind of got accelerated a little bit, but there\u2019s still going to be plenty going on,\u201d Rigney said.<\/p>\n<p>Skico is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/aspen-skiing-co-s-kaplan-assesses-coronavirus-hit-to-skico-and-valley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">replacing the roof on the Sundeck<\/a>&nbsp;and undertaking other projects on the upper mountain, including expanding the snowmaking system.<\/p>\n<p>There will be hiking, a sightseeing deck and \u201climited activities\u201d on the lawn, Rigney said. The Sundeck will offer \u201cgrab-and-go\u201d food only. Bathrooms will be available inside and seating outside.<\/p>\n<p>The goal is to reopen the Sundeck in mid-July, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Skico is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aspentimes.com\/news\/shift-happens-snowmass-begins-to-plan-summer-activities-amid-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">anticipating more normal operations at Snowmass<\/a>. The gondola will provide access to the bike park, hiking trails and the Lost Forest \u2014 which will open the climbing wall, the alpine coasters and the challenge course. There will be no canopy cruiser for the time being, Rigney said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bike park, we\u2019re looking forward to a great opening,\u201d Rigney said. \u201cYou can see bikers were all over the place in Snowmass this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Buttermilk is being considered as the venue for a one-off event or a series of events with collaborators, Rigney said.
