{"id":1320345,"date":"2020-06-04T15:05:20","date_gmt":"2020-06-04T21:05:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/?p=478911"},"modified":"2020-06-04T16:54:02","modified_gmt":"2020-06-04T22:54:02","slug":"new-minturn-bike-park-should-be-rider-ready-by-fall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/local-news\/new-minturn-bike-park-should-be-rider-ready-by-fall\/","title":{"rendered":"New Minturn bike park should be rider ready by fall"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"On the Hill Minturn Bike Park\" src=\"https:\/\/player.swiftcom.com\/?v=lKEW4D57P-g&amp;refhost=www.vaildaily.com&amp;refurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vaildaily.com%2Ffeed%2F\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>MINTURN \u2014 A long-missing option in the countywide effort to create a complete selection of mountain biking opportunities is about to be created on a picturesque piece of land near Little Beach Park.<\/p>\n<p>Large dirt jumps, currently under construction, will be available to mountain bikers by the early fall; the jumps range in height from 4 to 6 feet, something you won\u2019t find elsewhere in the county.<\/p>\n<p>While the park\u2019s opening won\u2019t be the complete vision supporters had in mind, the fact that anything at all came together is a testament to the Vail Valley Mountain Trails Alliance\u2019s ability to adapt to funding struggles, and the town of Minturn\u2019s commitment to a bike park for the town.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to local landscape architects Zehren and Associates, the group had a great plan for a park ready for this spring. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/news\/minturn-bike-park-campaign-exceeds-goal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">They were hopeful for a $250,000 grant from Great Outdoors Colorado for the funding<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately we did not get that grant,\u201d said Vail Valley Mountain Trails Alliance executive director Ernest Saeger.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the alliance was able to come up with $57,000 to start construction on the first phase of the park \u2014 the dirt jumps which will make the park unique among Eagle County offerings.<\/p>\n<h2>A plan for the ams<\/h2>\n<p>While the large jumps will be an anchor of the park, they\u2019re not exactly the most welcoming feature to anyone who is trying to progress their skills on a bike, officials at the town of Minturn observed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey started with advanced features because they pinpointed that nothing like that exists in Eagle County,\u201d said Minturn Town Councilmember Terry Armistead.<\/p>\n<p>The town council met to see if there would be anything that could be done to get a second phase completed while the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flowrideconcepts.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">park builders<\/a> were on site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe project started on May 15, and we realized that there was not enough funding to complete the phase 2 and 2B of the project, so we started putting a plan into work,\u201d Armistead said. \u201cThe type of project it is, they can complete that 2A phase this summer \u2026 we checked with them to see if this is something they could complete, and they were absolutely ready to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"p402_hide\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\">\n<div class=\"caption-container\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-478912\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/06\/IMG_7743-1024x768.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/06\/IMG_7743-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/06\/IMG_7743-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/06\/IMG_7743-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/06\/IMG_7743-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/06\/IMG_7743-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/06\/IMG_7743-200x150.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2020\/06\/IMG_7743-600x450.jpg 600w\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption><strong>A look at the new bike park in Minturn, currently under construction. The park is expected to be open by the fall. <\/strong><br \/>\n<em>John LaConte | jlaconte@vaildaily.com<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Armistead said recent community surveys undertaken in Minturn showed overwhelming support for the bike park.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a wonderful town manager right now who has listened to the citizens and she immediately put this plan into action with the council,\u201d Armistead said of Town Manager Michelle Metteer.<\/p>\n<h2>Builder tax provides build funds<\/h2>\n<p>To fund the second phase of the park, the town was able to use $47,000 from its capital improvements budget, a fund that has been recently bolstered by the implementation of a construction use tax in town, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/news\/minturn-voters-ok-tax-on-use-of-construction-materials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">which passed voters in 2018.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow with the addition of Phase 2A there will be a pump track and some flow trails,\u201d Armistead said. \u201cIt will open it up to more users.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And the full vision of a complete bike park with bathrooms and a pavilion is still in the works, thanks to some help from Minturn-born company the Gallegos Corporation.<\/p>\n<p>In future years, users can expect \u201cPicnic tables, trees for shade, and eventually a shade structure with a water fountain and bike stand and all the amenities that make this a park,\u201d Saeger said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaildaily.com\/news\/new-minturn-bike-park-should-be-rider-ready-by-fall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">via:: Vail Daily<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MINTURN \u2014 A long-missing option in the countywide effort to create a complete selection of mountain biking opportunities is about to be created on a picturesque piece of land near Little Beach Park.
