He has been a fan of Church for ages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Church is] one of those guys who\u2019s always been a huge influence in the way that I write music and play. That\u2019s all I listened to in high school \u2026 Eric Church [songs] were my spring break anthems in high school and college,\u201d Rhett <a href=\"http:\/\/theboot.com\/thomas-rhett-tour\/\">told<\/a> The Boot back in 2012, when he was a baby-faced newcomer. \u201cI really admire his writing style and the energy he performs with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So to get the experience to write a song with him? Unforgettable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was one of the coolest co-writes of my life,\u201d Rhett tells <a href=\"http:\/\/www.country925.com\/onair\/electric-barnyard-50108\/\" target=\"_blank\">Broadway\u2019s Electric Barnyard<\/a>. \u201cWe got together in Nashville \u2014 me and him and a guy named Like Laird \u2014 and we wrote a really, really cool song that hopefully goes on the new album.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even though the song isn\u2019t yet confirmed to be on Rhett\u2019s next record, he admits that it would be pretty hard not to put a track written with one of his idols on the project. Still, he\u2019s staying relatively mum about the details.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very Eric. When I sing it, I feel like I try to sing it like Eric,\u201d Rhett reveals of the song. \u201cWhen I was in the room writing it with him,\u00a0 I was like a kid in a candy shop. When I sang the demo, it was like Eric five years ago singing \u201cCarolina\u201d or \u201cThese Boots\u201d on the album.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps it was inevitable that the two singers would work together. After all, Rhett\u2019s been compared to Church in the past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been playing a lot of shows, and it never fails, after every show someone says, \u2018Dude, you sound a lot like Eric Church,\u2019\u201d Rhett\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/theboot.com\/thomas-rhett-interview\/\">said<\/a> a few years ago. \u201cI\u2019ve been really pondering that because I\u2019ve been putting our voices together, and they really don\u2019t sound anything alike, but I definitely appreciate it and take that as a compliment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rhett is currently heating up the country charts with his <a href=\"http:\/\/theboot.com\/thomas-rhett-make-me-wanna\/\">No. 1 hit<\/a> \u201d Make Me Wanna,\u201d his third consecutive chart topper and the fifth single from his\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/theboot.com\/thomas-rhett-it-goes-like-this-details\/\">freshman record<\/a>, <em>It Goes Like This.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Country fans, get ready to be jealous of Thomas Rhett:\u00a0He has revealed that he co-wrote a song with the one and only Eric Church,\u00a0and it will most likely be on Rhett\u2019s next record.
