He was best known for playing Mr. Spock in\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/screencrush.com\/tags\/star-trek\/\" target=\"_blank\">Star Trek<\/a><\/em>, but during his lifetime, Nimoy also recorded five albums, one of which included a <a href=\"http:\/\/theboot.com\/tags\/johnny-cash\/\">Johnny Cash<\/a> cover.<\/p>\n<p>Nimoy\u2019s first album,\u00a0<em>Leonard Nimoy Presents Mr. Spock\u2019s Music From Outer Space<\/em>, was released in 1967, but it wasn\u2019t until his fifth album, 1970\u2032s <em>The New World of Leonard Nimoy<\/em>, that he shared his cover of the Man in Black\u2019s \u201cI Walk the Line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCharles Grean of Dot Records had arranged with the studio to do an album of space music based on music from <em>Star Trek<\/em>, and he has a teenage daughter who\u2019s a fan of the show and a fan of Mr. Spock. She said, \u2018Well, if you\u2019re going to do an album of music from <em>Star Trek<\/em>, then Mr. Spock should be on the album.\u2019\u00a0So Dot contacted me and asked me if I would be interested in either speaking or singing on the record. I said I was very interested in doing both,\u201d Nimoy once <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maidenwine.com\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">explained<\/a> of how his musical career began. \u201cThat was the first album we did \u2026 It was very well-received and successful enough that Dot then approached me and asked me to sign a long-term contract.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nimoy\u2019s version of \u201cI Walk the Line\u201d was also included on a 1993 compilation album,\u00a0<em>Highly Illogical<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI Walk the Line\u201d was Cash\u2019s first No. 1 song on Billboard\u2019s Hot Country Singles chart; it also reached the Top 20 on Billboard\u2019s Hot 100. Originally recorded at Sun Studio in 1956, \u201cI Walk the Line\u201d was re-recorded four times during Cash\u2019s career.<\/p>\n<p>Born in 1931 in Boston, Nimoy was 83 when he died, due to end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
