During an interview in Nashville during the recent Country Radio Seminar, the trio opened up about how they stay tight as a band and keep egos from ruining the power of their music.

Formed in 2006, Dave Haywood, Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott came together to bring the world huge hits like “Need You Know,” “I Run to You” and most recently, “Freestyle.” And ever since those first days of recording, Lady A have been just as committed to bringing those perfect onstage harmonies to bear off the stage, as well.

“We’ve all watched these bands on Behind the Music. We know how this goes, and we’re not going to do that,” Haywood says of the band’s early decision to keep drama out of the picture, according to People. “Unless we love this, let’s do something else. But we love it and each other, and it’s been a great ride since then.”

For his part, Kelley says that one of his biggest challenges early on was learning to listen to his bandmates before simply stating his opinion. He says that the band’s first year was the hardest and points to an influential meeting with a communications specialist to help work out the kinks and get everyone on the same page.
