{"id":573197,"date":"2015-03-30T12:03:36","date_gmt":"2015-03-30T18:03:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/?p=573197"},"modified":"2015-03-30T12:03:36","modified_gmt":"2015-03-30T18:03:36","slug":"report-says-little-big-town-girl-crush-controversy-isnt-widespread","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/kske\/articles\/report-says-little-big-town-girl-crush-controversy-isnt-widespread\/","title":{"rendered":"Report Says Little Big Town \u2018Girl Crush\u2019 Controversy Isn\u2019t Widespread"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"tsm-clipoard-container\">\n<p>The backlash over\u00a0Little Big Town\u2018s latest single \u201cGirl Crush\u201d may not be as widespread as it first seemed.<\/p>\n<p>A recent\u00a0<em>Washington Post\u00a0<\/em>story noted that some radio stations stopped playing the song because listeners were complaining that it promotes a gay agenda, but\u00a0<em>Billboard<\/em>\u00a0contacted a dozen prominent radio programmers from around the U.S. as part of an in-depth investigation, and most of them said that there were few to zero complaints about the single.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a narrow-minded, conservative, eighth-generation Texan, and I think the song is fine,\u201d says \u201cBig Frank\u201d Edwards, program director at KRYS in Corpus Christi, Texas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe song certainly is delivered from a more abstract perspective than what we\u2019re used to,\u201d notes Wes Poe from Kansas City, Mo.\u2019s WDAF. \u201cThat takes a few more listens to grasp all the lyrics, but it seems pretty clear to me what they\u2019re getting at.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Only one of the radio stations that <em>Billboard\u00a0<\/em>contacted recalled any complaints about the tune.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe actually had a woman who paid an in-person visit to the station to express her concern for our airing of this song and, as she misinterpreted it, its threat to the moral integrity of country music,\u201d explains Chris Huff, who is the music director and assistant program director at KILT in Houston, Texas. \u201cShe seemed quite set in her conviction, and we simply thanked her for her feedback.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Washington Post<\/em> story included a quote from and link to a blog on ForTheCountryRecord.com, written by a Texas-based music director who goes by the name TexMex. In his post, the writer explains that \u201cafter explaining the song to more than a handful of people, every one of them responded with basically the same thing (paraphrased): \u2018You are just promoting the gay agenda on your station, and I am changing the channel and never listening to you ever again!!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In response to\u00a0<em>Billboard<\/em>\u2018s article, ForTheCountryRecord.com issued a response that defends the blog post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI kept the OP\u2019s anonymity because I respected what he had brought to the blog and didn\u2019t want his job to be threatened,\u201d the website\u2019s owner, Vickye, states. \u201cBut now our site\u2019s credibility is being threatened, and more and more outlets are talking about it potentially being fake.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis name is Lee France,\u201d she continues. \u201cHe is the music director for WACO 100 FM and KAGG-FM in Texas. Both are iHeartMedia stations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow let\u2019s stop spreading s\u2013t about a blog that has done literally nothing wrong,\u201d Vickye concludes. \u201cThanks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, LBT recorded the song at least partially because of the impact it would have on the airwaves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt could be a bit of a game changer on country radio right now,\u201d Fairchild said when \u201cGirl Crush\u201d was released last December. \u201cThere are not many women on the radio and not many ballads with that kind of lyrical content. I\u2019m excited.
