Luke Bryan\u2018s comments about outlaw country greats\u00a0being \u201cstrung out on drugs\u201d and \u201claying in a gutter\u201d have caused an uproar among fans and even some family members \u2014 with one of Waylon Jennings\u2018 daughters-in-law posting a particularly heated response on her Facebook page \u2014 but other Jennings family members have stepped in to say that there is no ill will.<\/p>\n

Jennings\u2019 son Shooter Jennings\u00a0has revealed that Bryan apologized to Jessi Colter, Jennings\u2019 widow, and he commends the \u201cKick the Dust Up\u201d hitmaker for his humility.<\/p>\n

\u201cLuke Bryan called my mom today to clarify that he would never disrespect my dad or me or any of us,\u201d Shooter Jennings tells the Los Angeles Times<\/em>. \u201cHe also asked for Buddy\u2019s number to call Kathy [Pinkerman Jennings, the daughter-in-law who posted her feelings on Facebook]. Whether or not he does, that takes a lot of guts.\u201d<\/p>\n

After all, Jennings says, plenty of artists \u2014 himself included \u2014 have said things in interviews that they regret.<\/p>\n

\u201cI misfired and said some things in the past about people, namely John Mayer. And I didn\u2019t have the guts to apologize,\u201d Jennings continues. \u201cSo, that being said, that kinda won me over.\u201d<\/p>\n

He adds later, \u201cI\u2019ve had my fair share of words being twisted and articles being sliced and diced. So I figured it was that \u2026 My point is, it\u2019s all flush in my book. He said some [stuff], and because of the internet, it came back on him. But he went above and beyond and manned up and apologized. In the long run, I believe his image has improved.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shooter Jennings\u2019 comments are a huge contrast to Kathy Pinkerman Jennings\u2019 remarks. In her Facebook postings, she called Bryan a\u00a0\u201dplatinum, disrespecting, no singing, whining, grasping for media attention, a\u2013hole.\u201d While Shooter Jennings says that he loves his sister-in-law for her \u201cdefense of the family and caring so much for the legacy,\u201d he doesn\u2019t necessarily agree with her distaste for Bryan.<\/p>\n

\u201c[A]s my mom says, [some] people out there want things the way it WAS, and nothing else. I\u2019m not defending pop music, but I am defending new music. My dad never liked labels, and neither do I,\u201d Shooter Jennings says, adding, \u201cWhile I support my family obviously, personally the whole thing didn\u2019t make a difference to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bryan is currently on his 2015 Kick the Dust Up Tour<\/a>\u00a0with opening acts including Dustin Lynch<\/a>,\u00a0Thomas Rhett<\/a>,\u00a0Randy Houser<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Florida Georgia Line<\/a>.
