{"id":791339,"date":"2018-12-16T07:32:55","date_gmt":"2018-12-16T14:32:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/?p=769845"},"modified":"2018-12-16T07:32:55","modified_gmt":"2018-12-16T14:32:55","slug":"see-matt-damon-leslie-jones-have-heated-argument-about-weezer-on-snl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alwaysmountaintime.com\/ksmt\/music-news\/see-matt-damon-leslie-jones-have-heated-argument-about-weezer-on-snl\/","title":{"rendered":"See Matt Damon, Leslie Jones Have Heated Argument About Weezer on \u2018SNL\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Screen-Shot-2018-12-16-at-5.50.04-AM.png\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"\/><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">An argument about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/weezer\">Weezer<\/a> derails a Christmas dinner in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/saturday-night-live\/\"><em>Saturday Night Live<\/em><\/a> sketch that found Leslie Jones and Matt Damon debating the merits of the long-running alternative rock band.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The fight begins after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/hear-weezers-fan-requested-cover-of-totos-africa-627717\/\">Weezer\u2019s cover of Toto\u2019s \u201cAfrica\u201d<\/a> is played during the dinner. \u201cI think they\u2019re doing some cool things right now,\u201d Damon\u2019s character says of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/weezer\/\" id=\"auto-tag_weezer\" data-tag=\"weezer\">Weezer<\/a>, noting that the band just announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/weezer-black-album-zombie-bastards-759206\/\">the release date for \u201cthe freaking Black Album.\u201d<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Jones\u2019 neighbor tells Damon, \u201cI\u2019m just a little confused because real Weezer fans know they haven\u2019t had a good album since <em>Pinkerton<\/em> in \u201996.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cUh oh, looks like we have a purist in the house,\u201d Damon shoots back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWeezer put out two perfect albums, \u2018Blue\u2019 and <em>Pinkerton<\/em>, and the rest is pretty corny,\u201d Jones tells the dinner party.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWell, that\u2019s your opinion, but me, I\u2019m ride or die,\u201d Damon said, adding that \u201cPork and Beans\u201d is better than \u201cBuddy Holly.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">What ensues is an ever-escalating argument between Jones and Damon where tempers flare with each ridiculous statement made about the band. \u201cCan we all agree that Weezer is the best band ever,\u201d Damon asks. Jones interjected, \u201cThat became the worst band ever.\u201d After Jones says Weezer went downhill when bassist Matt Sharp left, Damon yells that Weezer didn\u2019t really <em>begin<\/em> until Scott Shriner joined in 2001.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Before the situation explodes, the argument is defused when another party guest admits they like Yellowcard, leading Damon to storm out of the house while singing Weezer\u2019s \u201cBeverly Hills\u201d as he exits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">At press time, neither Weezer nor Rivers Cuomo have responded to the sketch on Twitter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/weezer-fight-snl-769845\/\" target=\"_blank\">via:: Rolling Stone<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An argument about Weezer derails a Christmas dinner in a Saturday Night Live sketch that found Leslie Jones and Matt Damon debating the merits of the long-running alternative rock band.
